Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
EDIT:
Been a while since Ive been on here or offered any radios for sale.
I bought my first house 6 months ago and still dont have everything moved over here (including some of my soldering tools and power supply/speaker setup)
Have no idea what if any radios I have left and havent been to the salvage yard since last summer so no clue what Ill find next time I go.
I have not yet decided on a new price for the radios or not but will definitely charge a little extra for an equalizer radio if I can find any since most guys were only interested in them if they were equalizer. I doubt I will be able to find any rare radios for you like Bose brand or ones that are controlled through the steering wheel.
I can not offer you any kind of radio repair.
Here are what I may have to offer in the future:
Modified equalizer delco radios with iPod input
AM/FM delco (with or without cassette) modified radios with iPod input
Or send me your radio and I will modify it for less than I charge for a radio I supply
Prices will include shipping (even radios you send me)
Pictures of radios below are not an accurate count of what I have right now. Im sure most of the ones below were either broken or sold. The pictures are from forever ago
I cant promise much right now but to stay tuned and hopefully Ill get an electronics area set up in my garage and a bigger more powerful power supply that wont fall on its face when I crank the volume up so I can better test the radios
Now getting on to the radios
I modify these radios and put a 3.5mm stereo phone jack in the front. You can play your iPod, Zen, zune, or portable cd player on them. Basically anything that has a phone output or RCA output. As seen below in post #4, you can use your cassette deck or AM/FM (didnt have an antenna at the time so thats why theres nothing but static)
Insert the jack into the socket and it cuts off the signal going to the amplifier and puts its own signal in it and amplifies it, playing it over your speakers. To listen to the cassette/AM/FM, just remove the plug

Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
Well the one in the video was sold pending funds as of yesterday. Two of the 89+ radios and one of the pre 89 radios are broken apparently, so I have 3 pre 89 radios available and only one 89+ radio left
Like I said Im accepting trades on some parts. Im really needing a 600-650 cfm Holley carb with vacuum secondary and a Mallory 4309 fuel regulator if anyone is interested
Or Im asking $50 plus $8.95 flat rate shipping for each radio.
I can try and get the radios modified and out asap. I usually have fast turn around when selling stuff
Or for $40 total I could modify a radio that you provide and I can ship back

Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
Only question is, if doing this on a tape player radio, do you have to have a tape in the player while using the AUX input?
Thanks
Mark

Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
No. Actually the radio in the video is my first and only conversion so far and was successful. I just started this. I just took the design off those guys that charge an arm and a leg for theirs
Id rather deal with fellow car enthusiasts and give you guys decnt deals than take the time to list on evilbay and compete with those guys
For instance they usually sell a converted equalizer deck for $90 and change. Whereas I charge $50 for any one radio regardless and if you wanted the jack mounted in a certain location or ran out the back so mant feet I could accomodate since I will make to order
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
Thats the part I need to get. I can put it at the top right like they do on the evilbay auctions. Other than that I dont know of any other way to mount one without doing serious modifications
It will be right to the right of the display
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
Here it is. The top knob is the wrong one. Its a brushed aluminum knob that the piece fell off but Ive got a couple dozen sets of knobs so Ill put the right one
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
Just got a 89+ equalizer radio with gray buttons (can change to black if you want)
Can modify. First come first serve
The kind thats got the search button for the cassette deck

Hey man, I'd be willing to pay you for one of those radios with the Aux jack in the front for my Mp3 player. I have an 88 GTA, so if you have one with an equalizer that can incorperate the steering wheel controls, then I'll throw you and extra 20 bucks.

Can I see a pic of the front and back of the kind of radio youre talking about?
If I cant get the radio, do you have a working one in your car you can send me? Ill do the mod on a radio you already own of you send me $40 (includes the return shipping in the $40)

No, I don't. I bought my GTA with no radio so I need a stock Delco to replace it. I don't want to buy an aftermarket radio since it won't be compatible with my steering wheel controls. I was hoping you had one for 88's so with the Aux port I can plug in my Mp3 player, set it on shuffle or to my fave album, and control the volume from the wheel.
I'll try looking around for a stock radio. If I find it, I'll mail it to you. Thanks alot.

Whats the difference between the 88 radio adn an 88 with controls radio?
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
As you can see, instead of nobs on the left, the radio uses buttons instead. Also from what I understand, in the 88, the antena input is either larger or smaller than the 89. I don't remember which. (the wiring might be a bit different also)

I can test either radio in my car since I found a 89+ to pre 89 harness in a car at the salvage yard
Ive got a bunch of knobs for all the radios as well.
Just seeing if anyone was interested
I'm very much interested. What's it cost me for you to get me an 89-92 radio and install the 3.5mm input for an MP3 player?

Cell phones use 2.5mm plugs yes? Normal MP3 players are 3.5mm--should be easy enough for him to do. Unless you want to install the plug yourself so he can just give wire you up the composites.
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
Kaiser and vern, I have to see if I have any more operating 89-92 radios left. If not I could probably swing by the salvage yard for you guys.
Vern, even if your phone has a 2.5mm jack, you can find 2.5 to 3.5 cables on evilbay. I dont even know if Id be able to find a 2.5mm plug with the special no/nc contacts that are in the 3.5mm jacks I use
Radios are $58.95 shipped in the US regardless of radio type. Ive done about scavenged the entire GM part of the yard for the equalizer radios (between 1000-2000 cars, trucks, and vans) and unless they get some new cars in I think Ive done bought them all. It should still be very easy for me to find a bunch on non equalizer radios so have no fear.
I havent been there in a couple weeks and Ive been meaning to check to see if theyve got any more f-bodies in anyway. Even with 60-70+ f-bodies in the section they usually dont get new ones in and when they do the parts go fast
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
I've already got the radio, it's a Monsoon late 4th Gen model I'll be sending you. PM me the address to ship it to. That $58.95 shipping is when we provide the radio, correct? And I'll take the 3.5 mm jack on miine - that's what my Blackberry uses anyway. If I need something smaller I'll find the conversion from 3.5 to whatever myself. How do I pay you? PayPal? Money order? what?
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
I'm guessing this would accept an input from an iRiver. I have it and i've never even used it so I don't know what size plug it takes. I need a radio and i'd probably get one from you. I don't care about the equalizer.
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
I need one of the radios with the ipod jack in it. Needs to be for the older style plugs (the three piece) and has to have a good tape deck. also needs to be from a pontiac so it'll light up red. thanks!
Re: Delco radios with iPod inputs installed. Both radio harness types 82-88 and 89-92
Hey guys. Been a while since I signed on or posted. Ive been pretty busy at my job I started in May and bought a house 6 months ago. Lots to do!!!
Im thinking of getting back into doing this but it may take some time. I dont even have any clue where half of my stuff is like radios and soldering iron etc. Some of the stuff is still at the parents house.
I am not sure if Speedway will even have many radios to choose from. Even scavenging the f body, truck, and van sections it doesnt take long to buy them all up. Half of which ended up being bad anyway.
I might have to readjust the prices I was asking before depending on current prices where I found the radios. Not to mention I am more like an hour and forty five minutes from there now instead of forty five minutes. Eats into gas and time.
I know Ive missed a lot of PM's from some of you and I apologize, but its been so crazy and hectic the last few months. Just wanted to say I might start doing this again and to stay tuned
