Since no one sitts there anyways I thought i would take it out and make a plywood box and cover it with carpet. It would give me more storage also. Has anyone here done this? If not I would like to hear some opinions to help me out. Thanx
i have been thinking of doing the some thing. the only thing i don't like is the wheight gain. if you go forward with plans post some pic's
good luck!!!!!!

It would probably be a little lighter than the seats.
I've thought of doing this too, but my interior is in such great shape I try not to mess with it too much.
4th gens would fit wouldnt they? id image so if the seats fit.
well, the seats fit, but that doesn't mean these boxes will. The boxes take up more space and cover a larger area than the seats. At least that's how it looks to me. I saw someone post that he/she had ordered a set of these. I need to find their post again and PM them about how they fit...
laynlowz, that is the most awesome thing ive seen in awhile....Damn, did you do that, or farm it out????? Been thinking of a reason to get rid of my back seats so I dont gotta give no one a ride...LOL.. thanks, Tom

yeah im sorry for bringing this back up...didnt feel the need to start a new thread...would these be that difficult to make or not...and has anyone found out if they will fit in a 3rd gen or not..or has anyone made them themselves??? thanks
How would plywood box's, or whatever, wiegh less than the seats. The rear seats are pretty darn light.
I can't imagine a plywood box weighing much more than the backs of those seats. That may just be me though. I also have the split rear seats. Might those weigh more?
Before my car got junked, i had a pair of subs that would have been perfect shape to fit in the "trunk" and i was just gonna leave the rear seats out. If anything, i would only put in something in the rear to smooth out the tranny hump, but whats wrong with storing stuff just openly in the back? Just use the roll up cover thing, but forwards, and put a net behind ur seats to stop stuff from rolling under ur feet.
Ditto most of rleprechaun. (As a percentage of total vehichle weight,
the rear seats must have at least 2 zero's right of the decimal point.)
I intend to make some plywood & carpet units, & move the ecm
and keyless entry units back there. GO FOR IT!!!
I just pulled my rear out(split backseat), I think just the way it looks with out the seats in makes it look cleaner, with the exception of the metal that comes through the carpet and tranny hump. At first I was thinking about doing something like thondor did, but my plans have changed to put the subs in the rear hatch space as well as the amp and making kind of an extra storage(small) just to cover the metal where the seats were. As for the weight I think 40 pounds might have been exaggereated alot, maybe 20 tops?
Btw all this will be going down after christmas and have some money since I spent alot of it on gifts for every1. And I already drew up plans on an autocad file if any1 wants them pm me.

havent seen this thread in a while, but yes i have the delete boxes in, i can get some pics soon. i had another thread where i vented on how crappy the initial construction of these seat delete boxes from speedspecality were, and how much of a pain in the *** it was to get them in the right color and to actually fit. i think they came out alright though.
i have a set of stock rear split seats and a custom upholstered 1 pc rear seat seup laying around the garage, the 1 pc back it heavy as hell, the split are not as heavy, but the delete boxes are definatly lighter and even more so if you take out the seat belts
86TA, I look foward to seeing the pics...Have already removed my backseats, and seat belts..Would love to do something with the area that looks good..I dont want any back seats no way...Thanks alot for your reply..Tom
here a couple quick pics, i still need to do something about the mount for the split seats, probably paint it, sorry the pics are a little green, the flouscent light dont like my camera and the camera wont adjust, to what i've seen to compensate.
i had to remove the covering, re-form the wood, and recover the boxes to get them to fit, some blind wackjob with a hammer cut these things out and didnt' seem to take pride in his/her worksmanship
the color match is not perfect but its close, the last pic loos like the color is way off, but its not that bad, its the camera

Nice Nice. I want those....but I think they need to look into maybe shaping them a little different. Or like someone just said make them so they sit flush or even a little over the tranny hump so it looks straight across.
I actually want to put my Subs there (GOD I HATE SYSTEMS) but I am getting 2 10" and a 500watter amp. Im no high bass guy. Just give me some boom boom and a little rattle and Im good to go. NOTHING IN THE COMPETITION CATEGORY.

they do look good in the car, but I wouldn't mind seeing alittle more form to them, make them look flush or with a slope somewhere just to add alittle more to it.
Everyone is talking about how much the seats weigh, and stuff, and then they put subs in their car those way much more than the back seat I dont undertstand

Take SEATS out and put subs in.....better than having seats and subs. I want to take mine out and put 2 10's in place of the seats and a 500w amp on the hump...in a nice fiberglass enclosure. I want that so this way nobody can get a ride in the back and I dont weigh as much as if I put subs in the rear and kept my seats in....Basically its a trade-off....seats for subs. At least in my case.
I want to get my enclosure fiberglassed then take out all carpeting and redo it all and then put the enclosure under the carpet where the rear seats used to be....it will sit flush and flow with the lines of the rear seat sections. And since it will be covered by carpet it wont look as though I have a systame just a big hump in my car...I just dont know how I will get them out. LMAO. I wanted them covered with the carpet....no cut outs but now that i think about it I dont think I can do that and make it work.
I dis agree nothing looks cleaner then a car with all the seats and a good sound system. Plus you need as much weight as you can get in the *** end of camaros. The more weight the better traction for faster launches. Plus its nice to fold down the seats and enjoy the night with your girlfriend. girls or subs i pick the girls. Nothing like cruising down the strip with three girls in your camaro

Well in your case, there won't be any need to fold down the backseats...that is once, your girlfriend finds out you cruised down the strip with 3 other girls
As for launches though, nothing that a good pair of slicks won't cure. But to each his own, right?
lol John
