This is some type of light under my dash but it is not very bright. It seems like it needs something else added. This is on my '92 and I am wondering if anyone else has one under their dash.

I guess I should put a bulb in to I can see my HVAC controls at night!

It's only intended to cast enough light for you to be able to see the sliders in the dark. My Corvette has a small light in the bottom of the rearview mirror for the same reason, except that one's bright enough to dimly illuminate the whole radio/heater area. It's a subtle thing that you don't really notice until you put your hand over it and realize that everything just got darker.
in mine the bulb is a standard 194. to get at it you have to take off the dashpad. at least thats how I got to mine. I put a super bright LED in there. But still cant see poo-poo with it.

after reading this i had to go out and look and low and behold, i have light, this is my second camaro and i never noticed a light there, it even works.
Believe it or not, I read on another post about the same thing that it is called an ash tray light. Took mine out of my 92 RS and used the wires to gauge illumination (well, dimming for digital gauges).
My 89 has that but my 86 did not. The 86 had some sort of fiber optic if you will to channel the light from the bulb that lights up to shifter to light up the ashtray. So when I put the 86 Dash in the 89 I had to cut a whole to bolt up the little light. I was thinking about putting a LED in there and maybe it would light it up a bit because the HVAC controls are way to dim at night.
Mine went out a while back and I replaced it so the bulbs are available I just dont remember the bulb number off hand.
