I know this sounds strange, but after my TA sits outside in the sun for a while, a brown substance starts to drip from the stitch holes on the steering wheel. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? I think its just from the heat "melting" the wheel a little, but I'm not certain. Gotta love these Third gens...

damn thats not good, i thought only second gens had that problem. Most likely it's the adhesive soaking through the material. My 79Z steering wheel has the same problem. touch it... is it super sticky?
Yeah, its very sticky. If I let it sit for a few days in the sun, it will leave a sticky coating on the steering column. It drips from whole near the top of steering wheel, on the underside where the leather stitching is. Is there anything I can for this other than keep it out of the sun?
Yeah they ALL do it. It's the glue and padding under the leather disintegrating.
Talk to these guys. I've never actually used them, but I've talked to them about it before, some years ago; seems like a good way to go. Not cheap, so don't expect it to be cheaper than some plastic POS you can get from JC Whitney or something; but good.

The simplest explanation that fits all the facts is probably the right one.
Get a cheap grant wheel, and be done with the pooping wheel

There was a GM service bulletin that referred to this very same problem on Third generation F-body's that was released back in 1989. The problem was the underpadding they used had melted away after some time from exposure to the heat from the sun and oozed out of the stitches on to the leather. According to the bulletin the only remedy is to use a GM leather cleaner to wipe off the access goo and to spray on GM's leather conditioner to seal it off and protect the leather from UV rays. The only problem is if most of the underpadding had ooz out already there would be a uneven feel on the top of the steering wheel. I had this very same problem in my IROC 6 years ago. I pulled the steering wheel and sent it out to American Stitches in Texas to have it re-wrapped and installed new under padding. It now looks like brand new. But it wasn't cheap.
Mine does the same thing, but the previous owner put a cover on the steering wheel. Problem solved for the most part.
I'm just glad mines not the only one that does it. I was dumbfounded the first time I got a big glob of the stuff on my finger. I thought the guy that had it before me ate caramel chocolate bars while driving or something
I think 02camaro's car could look really nice. All he would have to do is get a new dashpad, paint the instrumental panel gloss black, get new floormats, & some 4th gen seats. Then, I would paint the car black, no matter what. Doesn't matter if sprayed or canned on. Just get that green off. Take the dice off the mirror. Put a chrome Hurst shifter in. Take the louvers off. Last but not least air the right front tire up. Man, that would be a sweet camaro after all that.
