has anyone succesfully dyed their carpet? im looking here: http://www.rightlook.com/index.asp?P...TS&Category=83 i think the liquid will bring better results. its a little more expensive, but with the money im saving, its no issue... i havent seen very many threads on here regarding this topic, so either its not done very offten, or no one does it b/c it brings crappy results... thanks in advance for all the help!

I've used the Rite powder dye before and it worked out realy well. I did my carpet which are black. There us no wear or tears just faded from the sun in my convertible. Rick

Just use actual dye and not the cheap $3 crap from autozone and you should be good to go. A previous owner of my car redid the entire grey interior with black and it feels rough and looks terrible... I'm redoing everything.

Just replace the carpet. It's not that big of an expensive is it?

i was think in no more than 3 bottles should do it, that ill make 3/4 gallon. its probably overkill, but id rather have to much than not enough

Dye will last for awhile but soon fades back to the same shape it was in befor you did it. And it leaves the carpet rough just bite the bullet and buy some new carpet.

if you dont have the money right now to drop on new carpet then go for the dye. whats the worst that could happen? If it turns out shitty then its only thirty bucks and you've learned a lesson, if it works well then you just saved some nice coin. If you still need to buy the spray gun and everthing else needed then just go for the carpetting and dont waste your time playing with a dye that might not work well.

I'm actually going with a "cheaper" route. They have this "interrior car carpet" rolls at WallyWorld for about $8 each. I bought 2 and I'm going to lay that over my existing tan carpet. I'll let you know and show (pics) if you're interested...

Here is what the grilfriend and I did to her car. Most of the inteior was done with the stuff from Walmart called Rit liquid dye. I took the carpet out to the local car was, pressure washed and then hung it up to the dry for a bit. Then I took a spray bottle with hot water in it, added the dye and then sprayed the carpet.

This is how it turned out.

I used the cheap stuff from auto zone and it works great in the back floor board and hatch but the front is a different story it only lasted about a week before signs of wear so i redid them again and put in floor mats and that helped but not perfect .the rest of the car looks like new money, if you are planning on selling the car its the way to go but not long term unless you dont mind touching it up very 3 or 4 weeks.I dont recommend it for door panels unless you dont mind the rough feeling on your arm now if your arm doesnt touch it then it will work fine
