Hey guys... Damn it got hot here the past few weeks and today after work it was a cool 95 in the shade. Well, I shut my door on my 84 T/A to go home and the rear-view mirror fell of the windshield! lol... I'm probably going to buy a new one from hawks or someone like that but what kind of glue do I buy? Also, the glue from the old one is still on the windshield but I'm going to try some goo-off that my wife has. It's supposed to remove that type of stuff. I don't know if it'll work or not though, this stuff is practically fossilized! Any ideas if it don't work?

Razor blade takes the old glue off.

Use a windshield adhesive kit to reinstall, available at competent and quality auto parts stores and probably Autozone too I'm sure.

they even have those bloody mirror glue things at walmart and jewel (local grocery story). Not hard to find at all.

biggest thing is not to forget .....it takes time for the glue to cure out....they should be a metal piece that u glue on to the glass and then bolt your mirror to......just glue it up tape it with masking tape let her sit for a day....then pop your mirror on....Good as new

Use permatex?? 5 minute epoxy from advance auto. Those windshield adhesives are crap compared to that stuff, so are other 5 minute epoxies.

I just used a two part epoxy. I could almost hang from my mirror.

the kit I used when my mirror fell off last summer dried so fast that when I put the metal part on it went on a tiny bit crooked, when I went to fix it it was already stuck. Cant remember what kit I used, but it was ridiculously fast curing.

This is the stuff I bought. Waiting for a new mirror though to come in though since mine won't stay where I set it (It's all wobbly).

It is amazing that people post responses like this. First of all you shouldnt use epoxy on a windsheild, it isnt meant to bond to a smooth low porosity surface. You SHOULD use the correct adhesive, and when applied properly work VERY well. This is what the factory uses. The thinner the bond the better it will hold, this is why the windsheild stuff is so thin.
Also make sure you take the "button" out of the rear view mirror because the weight of the mirrow will probably pull the button off while it is curing. Also if you have not removed the old adhesive from the windsheild make sure you mark the spot where it was originally. I used a sharpie on the outside of the window so I reinstalled it in the same spot.

I'm going to have to beg to differ with you. I also have tried the windshield adhesive, and I followed all directions to a tee. Scraped all of the old adhesive with a razorblade, cleaned the area with the alcohol towelette supplied in the kit, I even left the button taped to the windshield longer than the recommended time before hanging the mirror on it. Once I hung the mirror back on, that thing fell off two hours later. I then used some two part epoxy that I had laying around and going on two years now, that mirror is still hanging to this day.

I don't know why my epoxy works but it does. Really it shouldn't

go with a 5 or 10 minute epoxy. nothing rubber or polyurethane based, since those are just for use on things that are flexible such as rubber.

i used the windshield adhesive kit from the autoparts store. I did it in the even ing when it was cool out, and followed the directions. after about 10 seconds the thing was stuck so good i couldnt move it and after 15 or 20 minutes i hung the mirror and its been good ever since. been about a year now. i bielieve the kit may have been made by permatex? but i cant really remember its been so long
