fairly simple question i think. im having a hard time trying to get the dash out of my car. i got afew bolts out but im having a heck of a time trying to get it out! everything else is still hooked up like the steering wheel and steering wheel coloum. is that part of the problem? do i have toremove the steering wheel and everything atached to the dash like the gauges and what not? ---------- or if you can tell me where the bolts are located that would be great thanks. i dont want to just rip it out and destory everything. tho it would be fairly quick lol i dont want to go to the wrecker and buy another dash.

What part of the dash are you taking out? The pad...the instrument panel or the area in front of the passenger side.? Got any pics?

i dont have any photos with me at this time. ill get some on sunday. ill be away from home all day and wont be back home till late. ill defently have some by sunday tho.
and im planning on taking out the whole thing. so its bare bones inside the car. i planning on redoing the gauges, adding a manual steering box.
(its going to be a drag car) and remove all heating vents and speakers. and all the wires and have what i only need for drag racing,
but i want to fix afew surface rust on the firewall. and its a super tight fit with the dash in the way.

According to my Haynes manual, you have a lot of bolts and screws to remove. The steering column must be dropped. the center console removed,the dash pad and dash speaker mounting brackets.

i already have the center consle removed with the cd player and wires from there.
ill go a get a haydens manual book probably tommorrow. keep forgeti9ng to pick one up.
ill try to remove as many bolts that i can see that are attached to the dash and see what happens lol.
im totally redoing the dash anyways so i would like it to be pretty bare to do anything to it before reinstalling it.

Yeah it's a complete teardown of the vehicle. I don't think you have to remove it but there are two nuts that hold it up. Just remove them and drop the column down.

well i havnt had the chance to really start taking any dash apart.
i got the top cover off. and i took the 2 bolts off but the steering shaft is still connected. how do i remove that? just unbolt it where it is at the firewall?

Just let the column lay in the drivers seats, you shouldn't need to take it all the way out.

i finnaly got the dash out. had afew problems but i figured them out. after i crached and slashed my hands on sharp plastic edges had bandaids all over by the time i got it out of the car.
it was a real pain the but to get it out holy crap!
i need to go get some batterys for my camera so ill take photos and post em up.
i have afew questions thos about some of the electrical parts behind the dash that i dont need.
i found 3 boxes. behind the dash and afew little blocks where wire is running into them and i have no clue if i need them or not.
(going to run Carb and have the very basic electrical stuff)

all im going to be needing are. turn signels, headlights. break lights. and high beams. thats pretty much about it. oh and thelights behind the guages. other then that. thats all i need. im not to sure what the boxes are for if they are some type of relay boxes or what. but ill take photos of em anyways.

alright heres some photos of the dash. i took photos of the weird boxes. im pretty sure the bigger of th boxes is the ECM. i could be wrong tho.

I'm listening closely. Gotta take mine out. Is cracked/piece missing on the driver's side of the center vent. Bought a used one from a member with the wiring harnesses, etc still attached, but I plan to use my wiring. I rebuilt all the missing pieces where the screw receivers slid on but had broken off, etc. Looks almost perfect from the front. Still dinking with the pad. Tried the hot iron vinyl repair kit - failure. Silicone. Failure. Just a couple cracks. Worse comes to worst, I'll recover. But I was hoping the swap could be accomplished without buggering alot of stuff up.

the BCM. what the frick is that? what does it do for the car? im going carbed and removing all the smog stuff. its going to be a drag car with minimal street use. i plan on just having the basics for electrial. head lights. highbeams. reverse lights, break lights. and the gauge and gauge lights. thats pretty much sums up my basic electrial stuff. no interior lighting besides the dash. i can always wire up something if i really wanted lighting. is the BCM needed?

I took my dash out also to reapaint it, here it is dont know it it will help any. I also took out all the wiring as i had a F.I. V-6 got a Carbed V-8 goin in going to use the painless wiring harness just havent got it yet.

i havnt thought about painting my dash. i think i will. a semi gloss. should look likeyours
as for the wiring goes. it looks pretty much like your. but i took my wiring harness out of the car so i can work on it. i just need to fix some rust on the floor by the pedals and by the passenger side where your feet go. with out the dash there it gives me alittle more room and some extra light to see what im doing.
once im finished that up. im going to cover it up and install the dash and everything. it should look good.
just need to get me a set of 4x6 speakers and i should almost call it complete.

i never had time to work on my car! being so dark by the time i come from work. tho its getting lighter everyday cant wait till spring! then ill really take off. i normaly get saturdays to work on my car

I'm in the process of removing my dash now. The passenger side is basically dangling, but the drivers side is caught up on something. Did you have to drop the steering column to get the dash out? Maybe that's whats holding me back. Do the gauges HAVE to come out first or can they start to come out with the dash? If I have to drop the steering column, is it INVOLVED where I have to worry about the steering not being aligned or anything like that? Hate to mess with it unless it is a SIMPLE drop down. Thanks

i had the exact same thing happen to me.
when i took my dash out. i took out the gauges.
the thing i found that was getting caught was this metal bracket on the bottom driver side of the dash. there was some black box of some sort attached to the bracket. wires coming out of it of course. that was pretty much the only thing. i tryed to get the dash out with out dropping the steeing wheel but didnt work. so i ended up dropping it. there is only 2 bolts holding up the steering coloum. once i droped that. it came out fairly simple. make sure you have all the bolts and screws out and if your completing taking it out of the car. make sure none of the wires are knoted somewhere behind the dash eather.
im pretty sure when dropping the steering coulum. it doesnt change your steering. just bolt it back up once you get the dash out.
thats pretty much the only struggle that i had. i took out the dash speakers as well when i pulled mine.
ill post a photo of what mine looks liike. i just gotta load it up on the computer.
