Recomendation for door panel replacement: did search

What I really want to know is what is required to get a working set.

I contacted classic industries and they sell the top rails which mine are a bit warped from the sun but still sort of usable. Figure I need those...

I also need to replace my deluxe cloth door panels which say 'Camaro' on them since the backing material is pretty much dust and the tabs that hold it onto the door are pretty much all broken off. Discovered this when I removed the door panels and they just slipped off when I removed the handles.

I keep hearing about door panel weather stripping and lock ferule on some...

My reply from classic industries
Hello Mercedes,

Here is the photo of the K829001. These are the non-assembled door panels and will not have the upper mounting backing plate with weatherstrip or the lock ferrule. The pre-assembled will have these included and ready to mount.

I was thinking of getting these black door panels but i figure that they wont have the holes and not sure what a locking ferrule is. plus please clarify what an upper mounting backing plate is.

please enlighten me so i can buy a good working set.

Or recommend the best but cheapest SET of door panels that are ready to 'bolt on' to my doors along with my new door rails that I plan to buy. Will be going for some door weatherstripping along with that but already chose a set. My t top weather stripping is good. Figure no point in replacing the door panels if I'm going to let my doors leak water onto them...

Looking for black or maybe a black and gray or black and blue since my car is a metallic blue.

239 for the completely assembled with backing plate and locking ferrule (whatever those are) seem a bit steep especially since I'll be adding 130 or so for the door rails.

Anyways, just looking for suggestions since after I get some new tires I'm going to be looking into fixing the inside then a paint job, then an engine rebuild, maybe an exhaust upgrade, then a stroker kit, then maybe a lt1 swap....

FYI: Replacing the Camaro, Camaro, Camaro interior will be next to impossible. The material has been discontinued (though there may be some NOS stock out there somewhere).

I was in a similar situation as yourself with the 89 formula I used to own. I had to purchase the top plastic trim piece from the dealer for both sides. The panel however was trashed. I just bought the correct matching fabric from the upholstery store and replaced it. Then repainted the metal pieces that were on the panel. It wasn't very hard to do yourself. I just used that spray glue on the fabric. Super trim adhesive or something like that. I refurbished both sides for about $40 not including the top black trim pieces.

Re: Recomendation for door panel replacement: did search

The metal pieces? I pulled the panels just long enough to see that they were deteriorating from age (pieces of the material were literally dust whenever I touched them. Plus on the top of the panel there are a bunch of holes where I'm pretty sure the top rail probably connected to the panel at that point.

So from looking at the panels I didn't see any point in refurbishing them since at the bottom of the panel the plastic clips that hook into the holes in the door were also broken at several points (pretty much if I unscrewed the door handle they would slip off on a corner.).

I read up on the deluxe cloth and gave up on that idea since everyone kept saying that it wasn't 'stocked' anymore. Looking for something black since I'm going to go with an all black interior. I figure that you can't screw up black that easily!

My thoughts were also into looking into Irace Motorsports from Jim but he hasn't replied yet to my question.

Was looking here as well, from his stock he has Camaro Style 301 $140
and he has Camaro Style 306 $145

Do these have all the plastic pieces that attach to the door, the 'metal backing plate and locking ferrule' as the classic industries person mentioned?

The lady at classic industries mentioned that their 239 dollar door panel set for the black was completely setup. So plus $130.00 or so for the door rails I would be out $350.00 dollars plus shipping.

Was hoping to spend $250.00 since that is what I set aside for this project; setting aside a lot more for tires since that is a high priority since mine are pretty bald.

Preffered the camaro style 306 but it looks like there is a hole for the manual window opener, mine are power. Not sure if the holes are cutout. Anyone have any ideas on his product line?

Re: Recomendation for door panel replacement: did search

I guess i'm not familiar with the camaro door panels. I thought they were close to the same but maybe not. On the formula there was a metal molding piece that ran the length of the door panel. It separated the top cloth section from the bottom leather portion. I'm unfamiliar with the metal backing plate and lock ferule that was mentioned.

The problem with spending this much money on door panels is that you are still buying an inferior product. The $130 black trim piece is still the same plastic that cracks and bends like the original. The door panels are a similar situation. I was hesistant to spend a lot of money on the panels so i refurbished mine.

The holes in the panels along the top rail and the holes for the plastic clips were reinforced with pieces of aluminum. I took some thin aluminum sheet about 3 inches wide and the length of the entire panel. Then i folded it in half and slid it over the areas with the holes. Then i re-drilled the original holes in the aluminum sheet. You can buy new plastic clips to replace the broken ones and they will not pull out of the aluminum piece.

Sorry to trail off. If you want to do it yourself you can save money but if not go with the classic industry pieces. Sux that they cost so much though!

Nope, no one got back to me; classic never confirmed things as well but then other more important things came up for my car so I quit messing with the interior. Will try again later but no answer.

Re: Recomendation for door panel replacement: did search

ive never done door work, but gonna try. i gotta remove my door panel, its a red leather like material, its in decent shape but the black piece that its on top isnt attached very well and i can see some kinda under fabric showing or i should say hanging out from the bottom. I broke my door handle off cuz i was pissed that my alternator died leave me stranded at 711, so i kinda pulled on it hard and snapped it, not a good anger management tool, but ohwell, gonna replace the door handle, it requires a rivet i beilve but im gonna try to do it non cheap *** and use a small bolt and nut. would like to replace the window stripping at the base of the glass, T top stripping is rediculously expensive :/.

Got bored and just did the vent fix, using some of the velcro "fuzzy part". Works perfect. Also Changed out all the white bulbs to red, think i need to go with LED's, its nice but not bright enough.

My oil pressure guage wacked outa when my alternator went. its stuck all the way up. I replaced the guage and no luck so i gotta figure that out off i got, i let ya know what i find out.. kinda shitty no one ever reply'd "customer service represents the quality of "Whatever they sell""
