Odd interior light question + more

What the hell is that light under the air vents for? It emits a very dim yellow light.

Also, I need the bulb part numbers for it and the following:
  • console bulb(s) (more than 1?)
  • side markers
  • small side bulbs in tail light assy
  • hood
  • 4th gen rearview mirror
  • inside instrument cluster?
  • under dash lights (and where they are?)
  • wierd light under the top portion of the dash vents (*pic above)

I'm going to be replacing all of these lights with proper non-ricr LEDs. Thanks in advance.

No one knows what that light is for. I'm surprised yours works, mine doesn't do anything.

www.sylvania.com and a replacement guide that will tell you all the bulbs you need.

Looking at some of my wiring diagrams it looks like it's commonly referred to as a map light.

Amazing that it works considering the age of the car. Its never been replaced either...I didn't even know the bastard was there until 2002 when I installed that blue switch. I thought "WTF"?

A map light would sort of make sense...but wouldn't it need to be a touch brigher? *edit* But the "map light" is in the rearview mirrors...so that can't be what it is.

So here's the list, I had no idea that they'd put the entire list in an easy to copy/paste manner.

Console light. There is a thread "Light Above HVAC Controls" that has a ton of info and conversions to L.E.D.

Well I just checked and what did I find? I have the light too and it works! Flipped the headlight knob on and it shines! Nice to know I don't need to replace that bulb.

Re: Odd interior light question + more

lol. . . I remembered reading these threads while scrounging around Pick-N-Pull for for a replacement door from attempted theft damage. I had wondered what the gaping hole was underneath my dash was (someone had removed the entire unit) and came across a gutted 91-92 RS while at the yard. Found the mount on the dash then traced through the remains of the wiring harness and found the light intact. Got home, put it all in and whaddya know, it stilled worked. But, like many others, its pretty dim.

So, how do you change the bulb out or clean it??? Seemed like a self-contained unit to me.

Seems like there's a difference in the mounts- pre-90 bolts into place, 90 and up snaps into place.
