Call a locksmith and let him worry about the alarm. AAA to your door for less then $100 or keep trying yourself.

option 1 would be remove the cylander and replace it or take the key sensor out so it doesnt need a key to start. option 2 would be peal the column and you can hot wire it keep in mind its a twenty year old security system there not that advanced and the cars werent the difficult to steal in the 80,s. instructions would be in a haynes manual on how to remove the ignition

Stop by a GM dealer. They can make you a new key with the chip on it that works with your car. Costs about $45.

Welcome to TGO!
I had already bypassed the VATS on my car when I bought it. You do this by soldering a resistor of the same value as the one in the key, under the dash.
After that, you can get a non-vats cylinder for about $12.00 at advance, or autozone, or somewhere similar.
http://www.thirdgen.org/vats has some info on VATS. If I remember correctly, the 2 wires you want to jump with the resistors are purple w/ white stripe and white w/ black stripe. I may be mistaken, but if you decide to go this route, I can look for you, and post some pix if ya' want.

There is a vendor somewhere that makes a simple plug in resistor thing too. No soldering, you simply unplug the VATS, and plug this in between. Just can't remember where I saw it shouldn't be too hard to find though. Mine was bypassed, soldered, before I bought it. One less hassle to deal with in my opinion.

Is it a self learning bypass module you're talking about? You can get a cheaper one, that you set yourself.
Here's the self learning, which is pretty much wasting money if you have your key.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0011YOQHW?...0&linkCode=asn

Even cheaper would be to get a potentiometer and dial in the correct resistance, super glue it to that position, and solder it in.

Even cheaper, is to simply build the right resistance with resistors and solder them in. Since the user has lost his keys, I think the self learning module would be his best bet, unless he's comfortable building his own values, and trying them one at a time. If that's the case, here's the values you will need to build:

Remember, if you decide to build your own, you need to wait at least 3 minutes between each try, though I would recommend 5 minutes.

$50
$5
or $.25
Your choice.
