Yep, it's threaded, I've got the exact same one. Maybe try wrapping it with a towel and grabbing it with a rubber band wrench. That may get it without destroying the leather.

To fix the loose leather, I've seen people put epoxy into a syringe and squeeze it thru the stitching, slide the leather around to spread the epoxy and set it where it needs to be to dry. Years later, it still works and looks like new.
