Steering column removal on '91 RS

I am taking out the steering column in my son's '91 RS and I came across this cable, does anyone know how I can take this cable off of the column in order to remove it? I'm getting it rebuilt, to many things wrong with it.

last month i swapped a 89 r/s standard shift column into my 88 s/c auto . mine was just a little different looking . cable runs to auto shifter , i forget what its called . any way you can just unbolt entire bracket with cable from column . dimmer sw. rod just slips out . you may have to re-adjust sw. when you re-install . no big deal , just try and set it to hear dimmer sw. click before tightening sw. bracket & raising column back up . hope this helps . good luck .

Re: Steering column removal on '91 RS

If I were to purchase another steering column from the wrecking yard, and reused my ignition switch out of my existing column onto the newly purchased one, would this work ? Also, can I bypass the VATS in my '91 RS with this schematic? : http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg

Re: Steering column removal on '91 RS

That will work for the vats. That is how the previous owner did it on my car. They also make the plug in adapters that take care of that too. Not too expensive either. Might be an alternative if you ever wanted to have it in the future.
