looking for some help on a '78 dash...

Hey guys I know it's not a third gen. but I'm crossing my fingers that one of you guys can help me out...

ok, here goes...
i've got a '78 for the most part all original (interior, exterior, and engine), I am wondering if there is a way I can make the gauges shine brighter...I got the aftermarket 3guage cluster (amps, temp, oil) and those things shine like crazy i've got them mounted underneath my stereo...But now my speedo and fuel gauge really look dim especially when compared to those other gauges...

Does anyone know a way I can fix this???

Take the cluster apart (or find another and keep the original) clean the backs of the gauges (I think they are blue can't remeber) they are more they likely to be covered in black dirt. Also clean the dirt off the small bulbs that will make it way brighter , there is years of dust and particles inside.

If your not satisfied with the stock factory brightness after a good cleaning. Paint the back of the gauges bright silver or chrome (spray paint). You can paint the back any color depending on what color you want the gauge lights to be (silver will make it super bright and similar to stock) which is why I say get a seperate cluster if you may want to keep the original untouched.

This will work best without butchering the cluster with LED's or other light add ons.

can you use a brighter bulb in those or a LED alternative that is brighter without butcherin it? I don't know what type of bulb it uses but there are super bright LED alternatives for most automotive bulbs.
