What would you do about replacement seats?

I have a 1984 Pontiac Trans Am. It is in the process of restoration. It is not an all original. I am However trying to keep it as near as possible to a Stock TA. The scheme I am following is to make it as good as I can. It didn't have a rear disk brakes OEM so I installed one from another. The original motor was vandalized and cant' be repaired so I got a replacement. So on and so forth. Now I have a problem where a prior owner decided to discard the original seats and replace them with some model z-24 seats. You fell as if you are sliding off them all the time. I have found that 1984 seats are not around. They get crushed. I need to find the frames and electrical stuff so I can Have them reupholstered. Anyone have any advice??

Re: What would you do about replacement seats?

That's a tough one. I know there was nothing around here or on the Internet when I was looking for an original set of '87 IROC seats. It took me awhile, patience helps, probably 3-4 months I kept my eyes open, to find the right set. Like you I couldn't find anything original and decided to go with newer seats. It was well worth the wait for the right set to come up. As much as I wanted to keep the car all original the old style seats really suk. I ended up with a complete set out of a '98 that are a near perfect match for the interior and in really great shape. They don't look out of place and the only ones who'd know they weren't OEM are the purists. Be prepared though to pay a good dollar for the right set.
