Had this made. Just thought i show off this console lid with cup holder. built from scratch covered in automotive grade vinyl. I liked it alot especially the drive to carlisle and back. Got it from Classic Consoles.

The bottom of the lid sit flush on the console anf the lid attaches to the original hinge that comes with the console.

what to do with the drink if you have to open the lid Good question. i guess it depends on the situation. I mostly sit the drink in the passenger seat or sit it up further on the console.

I drove the car to carlilse but had another car registered that didnot make it due to brake issues. It stayed parked in the Nastz28 camping area the whole weekend. I brought a console lid similar to mine up to the show and donated it for Jeff at www.ClassicConsoles.com. It was suppose to have been auction off or given away for charity. Not sure what happen to it.
The lack of cupholders in the 3rd gens explains why so many of their carpets and seats are covered in pop and beer stains (not to condone D&D, but it was the '80's!!! ).
Especially in the rides with std trannies.
great job on the lid. I think its one of the best "cupholder-on-console-lid" settups I've seen so far... If I didn't have 4 cupholders in my 4th gen center console I'd go this route myself...

I'd like to put mine here, not as accessible but then again drinking and driving is something I will not do, so access when stopped will be easy. Also if a passenger is in the car, now they don't have to bother my arm when their drink is in the cup holder. Just have to check size and such, I think I want it to get smaller as it goes down to fit many sizes, as I may use a type of stretch material. Anyway. Something like this.

before I got my center console, I was actually planning to use a slideout-tray cupholders from a Galant or other import. I was going to mount the little tray under the dashpad area (infront of where the map holder)...

The only cup holder 3rd gens offered were on the door.
Forget a drink was in there when you shut the door once and you will never do it again.
Jam it in the door handle? Been doing that for the few weeks my car's actually been on the road. Slammed the door with half a can of pepsi yesterday and it splashed everywhere.
i dont drink coffee and just drink stuff out of those 20 ounce plastic bottles soft drinks come in. the bottles fit perfectly, with the cap on of course, right next to the seat belt buckle that is close to the center console. its like that spot was made for em.

well when you are short... and not 6' tall, the seat pretty much kills all the ideas... Other then the ash tray delete to 2 cup holders and the console lid...
