Console Lid Button Spring HELP

Today I went to install a new console lid. As I lifted off the old one, the spring for the catch button fell out. I did not see how it was installed before it fell. Can anyone please advise or send a pic on how the spring is supposed to be installed?? My can is a 1986 IROC. Thanks!

Re: Console Lid Button Spring HELP

The factory spring is nothing more than a U-shaped piece of metal. It just goes in the back of the channel that the button slides in.

Thanks for the reply, does it(the spring) hook to anything? What keeps it in place as tension is applied by the button when you push it in? I know it is probably easy to install, but I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks.

Re: Console Lid Button Spring HELP

No, it just sits in there. It makes it a little tough to put back together. You have to set it in place and push the button in all the way to hold it there while you put it back together, otherwise, it will just fall out. Of course, you could glue it in place if you want. However, don't use any really strong glue because the springs do break at times so you may need to replace it down the road.

Just hold it right side up when you reassemble and you should have no problems
