Anyone have a write up on carpet install??

I have decided to hold onto my camaro and just upgrade it a lil.. I was thinking of redoing the carpet on the interior.. I was just wondering if anyone has a write up on the install and where i can buy a simple kit where all you have to do is lay the carpet in and bam done if it can be that simple.. i really dont want to have to do any cutting or anything like that.. also i am assuming you have to take out the center console.. if there is no write up on the carpet install is ther anything about how to remove the center console? Thanks

Re: Anyone have a write up on carpet install??

use search next time.
i know i wrote a setup on it but i cant find it.
but i did not mention that i needed a hair dryer and setting stone. the hair dryer makes the backing hot and the stone or board will allow you to mold the carpet to the interior.
its fun to do. will take a good 2 days because you will need to learn how to take the interior apart. find a good hardware store that sells lots of different types of metal screws, you will lose some and need some.
good luck and have fun. i am still driving the camaro i bought new in 1990.

The ACC rugs are nice. They come premolded which makes the job easier. There's also an option to order them with the center console part already cut for you.

Here's a link to them on our site.

Re: Anyone have a write up on carpet install??

Just called up a professional place that was recommneded numerous times.. They said it would be 495 for the passenger area carpet replaced.. that includes full installation... they also quoted me 295 to redo the headliner... they were recommended by a guy who had his interior on his classic cars done at the place so i think i might jump on it.. definately going to do the headliner.. carpet can wait for a bit as its not that bad..

you should be able to get the entire thing done for about 750.00 front rear and back of rear seats, and doors too.

i chose the do it yourself method and it is a bit of a pain, but you do have a learning curve.

Re: Anyone have a write up on carpet install??

I didn't really do a write up, but it's pretty straightforward. More grunt work than anything. Make sure to curl up the carpet so the backing doesn't scratch things up. The plastics need to be removed as well as the seats and console. It's more time consuming than difficult. There's no way I could afford to have someone do it for me though. I think using GM carpeting is a lot easier if you can find something in good condition.

The console has bolts that hold it to the floor. IIRC, some are hidden in the floor of the console glove box so you have to peel the bottom liner back a little. Basically you remove what you can see and pull up gently and look where it's being held down.

The headliner is more of a delicate task in the it's bulky, some of the clips are different and it's easy to break. Make sure your hands are clean.

Here's the install at the time, the thread was posted a while after it was completed.

Re: Anyone have a write up on carpet install??

I just finished my carpet - all apss area front and rear - bought ACC with cutouts for #158 shipped and bought another $40 worth of extra temp/insulation materiul to put underneath - not sure how you arrive at $750 (with headliner) but you can do it yourself with good parts for a whole lot less than that
