Which auto-down window switches ?

Im doing a modification of the auto-down window switches and I am curious about which GM vehicles from 92 and up came with auto down switches. Its likely that they all use the same wiring setup (perhaps not some of the newer models) . The switches from the Saturn SC's work with little modification to wiring, what other auto-down switches exist ?

Re: Which auto-down window switches ?

Why not buy a DEI 530T module and convert your stock switches into auto-down and auto-up. I have one. Its easy to wire up and works really well.

Does it have the auto-down feature on atleast one of the switches ? i am also looking for something that has individual switches rather than two of them combined.

Re: Which auto-down window switches ?

On the 4th gen cars, there is a driver switch panel on the driver door with 2 switches, one for driver window, one for pass window. The driver window switch on the driver door does auto down, but the pass switch doesn't.

But, on the pass door, there is a switch for the pass window, and it does auto down.

So I guess you'd have to have a driver window switch from the driver door, and a pass window switch from the pass door (or else two of either).

Make sense? I think I even confused myself

Are the 4th gen switches seperate, meaning are they individual switches are are they mounted on the "same plate ? Any other GM vehicles that anyone owns that come with this ability ?

omni,

Can you explain a little further what you are trying to do? Do you want to replace the stock buttons? Do you want them to be seperate?

Re: Which auto-down window switches ?

On the 4th gen driver door, the switches are sepeate on the same 'plate' - you could remove them from that plate and mount individually in their own seperate holes. On the 4th gen pass door, there is only the one switch, so yes it is seperate.

I like the idea of that module listed above, and at $54, you can't beat the price.

Well, I am looking for a single replacement switch that has autodown capabilities.

This is what I am NOT looking for

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-98...Q5fAccessories

I need it to be separate switch, not 2 on one piece.

I need something like this, but in autodown format.

Re: Which auto-down window switches ?

Wow - I'm dumb founded. I never tore the switch out of my 1997, I just looked at it from the top and assumed it was seperate switches - sorry dude! I thought I had it for ya with the 4th gen switches.

So what about the module shown above - I kinda like that thing, and it does auto up and down?

So you are set on replacing the stock switches? Just trying to figure out why the DEI module is not doing it for you?

Actually no.. I don't want to replace the stock switch...

Heres my idea.. I am going to ad a third switch to my window switches. This switch will be an auto-down switch, and will route to both of the existing switches.

Result : auto down for both windows simultaneously... with one switch.

I have an auto-down switch from a saturn SC that I was able to get working, and initially was to try to acquire 2 of them yet I believe that I can achieve the desired effect by routing one switch to both wires while leaving the stock switches intact . I just want a smaller switch and its likely that GM did not stray far from the 4 wire setup they have been using.

Should re-state, what late model GM vehicles had auto-down switches.

Try taking the duel one and take the passenger side apart and cut it down until it's flush. then mount it with a single hole by itself. you may be able to separate it completely, but that would have to be something you experiment with.

You may have problems with one window reaching the bottom before the other and then shutting off. IIRC, the shut off is triggered by the current draw when the motor reaches the bottom.

That is actually what I was going to do, but this switch is not aesthetically pleasing and i'd like something from a vehicle that has nicer switches. I am assuming that most GM's will work the same so I am just looking for something a little more congruent with the rest of the switches.

You could try to separate the auto-down portion of the switch and use that along with an original switch/es.

before you buy any switches, I'd do some more research. I'm not an expert but I don't believe its the window switch that makes it autodown. I believe there is a separate interior module (like the ECM for the engine) that controls all interior functions (locks, windows, a/c, lights, etc)....

Re: Which auto-down window switches ?

yes its very easy to install 2-3 hours nly because you ned to take your time when dealinmg with wires and you need to take apart your console to get to the window swtiches and you need to wire directly to the battery(recommended)

but im very pleased with the result plusi get to keep my stock switches no fabricating

I was kind of wondering that as well, but had heard that they are in the same module. That would make things much easier to adapt.
