my headliner fabric is hanging loose (85 Z28) and from what i understand, it is best to pull the entire headliner board out, clean off the old glue and foam, and replace with new foam and fabric. has anyone done this recently? is it difficult to remove the old headliner board? thanks, rick

well, i pulled the headliner out of the car last night.........not TOO bad of a job to take on. some of the trim pieces and clips were a bit tricky. anyway, i took it to upholstery shop today and had it redone. they put all new foam backing on, and new fabric. this thing looks brand new!! i will try to get some pics up, rick
I've been going back and forth about what to do about my headliner. I did a thread about headliner repair, and found out some interesting options. I just want what ever I do for the fabric to be ten times stronger than what the factory put in it. I have a chunk missing from mine. If I could find an upholstery shop to do it for 85, I just might cave in and let them do it. I have a center council to screw with also.
My headliner board was really eaten away form the heat. It was cracking and really nasty. Ended up ordering one fron A1 auto. I doubt an upholstery shop could of helped me. But for 85$.. i shoulda tried at least. DArn it!!

Not sure how bad of a chunk is missing but this scrape and recover kit might be an option for you,if you didn't want to do the ABS one.
Yes Tony, it may very well be an option. My interior color is called saddle brown, and the color is listed in the recover kit offered. I have seen the color "desert sand" in regard to other applications. Is it the same as saddle, or is it different?

here is a pic of my headliner before re-installing it last night, it looks GREAT in the car.........in fact, it looks so good, that i am having my visors re-done now. rick
after 20 years mine is starting to pooch down right in front of the passenger side seat belt. i will prolly re-do it next spring. pulling the board out isnt too bad i have done it on a different 3rd gen fbody helping a friend out. its getting the cloth and backing on in a professional looking manner that is difficult.
yeah, pulling the board out wasn't too bad.....some of the clips can be alittle tricky, and i had to get a couple new clips from dealer. the key would be getting the pad and fabric back on, which is why i paid a professional to do that! LOL.......rick
It actually fit pretty good, except where the drivers side seat belt hole is. I should have cut out as little as possible. The plastic cover did not cover the hole completely and you can see the foam on the headliner. I hope i said that right!?
I need to redo my headliner too. How do you get the interior trim pieces off to get started? I don't see any screw holes in the plastic A pillar/ceiling interior trim pieces. How do you get them off? Do they just "pop" off? My trim is pretty nice, I don't want to mess them up.
