Wiper Switch Broke wtf?...

OK, so a few days ago I ordered a replacement turn signal lever off Ebay with cruise and delay. It was the economy replacement priced at $20. I believe this is the same one 1AAuto sells except this one was chrome. I wrestled with the old one for a bit getting it out of the column (Something I've done several times before with no issues), then tried test fitting the new one. Right off the bat, I could pretty much tell this thing was NOT properly sized, as it took a good bit of pressure to get it seated right. After it was in, I was extremely displeased with the way it worked. With the old lever, rotating the delay was a smooth action and you could feel the clicks. This new lever felt very stiff, and you could barely feel the clicks while turning it because it was such a tight fit. I immediately tried removing it, which proved to be an uphill battle. I literally had to stand outside the car with the door open, grab hold with BOTH hands and do everything except put my foot against the car for leverage before it popped out.

When I put the old one back in, the delay rotation just sorta freespins and no longer clicks anymore and here is the best part: MY FRIGGING WIPERS ARE STUCK ON THE ON POSITION! I had to go under the hood and unplug the motor to get them to shut off. So, short or jury rigging up a switch to wiper motor until I can afford the bill to have the switch replaced, anyone have any auggestions? Maybe something is simply stuck and not broken...

Only I could suggest is a different one - you know they sell them at most Autozones/Advance stores in the HELP! section? Not sure if they are any better, and they don't have chrome, but it's a cheap try.

well the wiper switch itself is a pain! you gotta rip the whole column apart! as for why the wiper broke? thats cuz you didnt turn the wipers completely off before going ape sh*t on it. would have been fine had you shut them off, that was a deadly mistake i had made in my car

Re: Wiper Switch Broke wtf?...

Earlier this afternoon I realized that I had made that mistake of not having the lever in the right position. But the new turn signal lever made it hard to tell what position it was in because it was so stiff. Oh and by the way I realized why it did that It's because instead of anodizing the metal shaft they PAINTED it.

Re: Wiper Switch Broke wtf?...

I picked a switch up off ebay for $37. Everybody always suggests going to the boneyard as a first solution unfortunately the nearest one that has these cars available is an hour and a half away.
