I've bought a complete 4th gen console that I'm considering putting it in my car. I've seen it done with a manual car, but mine's an auto currently. I put the console in with the auto console top and it wouldn't clear the nuetral safety switch. So, I think I'm gonna try the manual top I have to see if it'll clear the switch. Anyone done this or know if it'll work? Thanks in advance!

I have a 92 Formula 350 with an auto and a 4th gen manual console swapped in. It works fine, nothing hangs up or catches on anything. The console is from an 02 Trans Am I think. The swap should work fine for you
Awesome. Thanks for the info. I was thinking that it would, but I really didn't want to put all the time and effort in to just take it all out again lol. I'll post pics when I'm done. Thanks again!

I posted a few pics in another thread about this questions. I've got an A/T 87 TA and have a 93-96 bird M/T console. It fits great. trying to use an A/T console, not fun. Stick with the manual ones and you should have no issue.
Like stated above, I would try to stay with the manual console. I have a manual console from an 02 TA in my 87 TA and it fits great. I had the auto plate but it never fit right and I had to make my own radio pod...not fun.
Mods so far: MSD Cap and rotor, MSD ignition coil, Accel 8.8mm ignition wires, Hooker Super Comp Shortie Headers, Flowmaster 3in catback, underdrive crank pulley, custom cold air intake, NOS wet 125 shot, air foil and a lead foot! no E/T's yet. ...TURBO COMING SOON...Other mods include keyless entry and remote start, and Sequential Turn Signals.
Did something happen to the archives here? Because, back in '05 or '06, I swapped an '02 TA console into my '92 Formula. I had a whole thread about it in the Interior section, with pics. I just searched for it using the advanced search, and it's just gone
Anyway, the automatic top plate won't work without a lot of effort...basically you'd have to reposition the shifter and hammer your trans tunnel and stuff like that. People have done it, but it's a lot of work. I went with the six-speed console.
Here are some pics from the install...Dan might recognize the car. I am not going to write the whole description again, but if you have questions, just ask!
Awesome. Thanks guys. Those pics really give me confidence lol. Looks great finished. I cut up an old console from a thirdgen for the plate for the window switches in the ashtray about two months ago and never installed it.
I need to do it, but I've been working on this new book case I'm building, and woodworking is time consuming.

I have a 4th gen console so my curiosity got the best of me. I also just happened to have picked up a couple of Ford switches to experiment with. It may be a while before I get to it, but I now have a good idea of what I'll need to do.
Thanks for posting the thread!
I was actually looking for that thread because I knew it was there, but I couldn't find it lol
