I used to restore antique radios from the 30's-50's and I can say that masonite does NOT last. Most radios used it as a back and it deteriorated from heat of the tubes. That being said I don't know how well it would hold up in the heat of a car. I also don't know if/what improvements have been made in the last 70 years so I guess I'm just talking yer ear off.

Yeah i don't really have a hole lot of money but i think i'm going to head to lowes and pick up some 1/8" plywood, anybody know about how much the abs would cost, i'm gonna cover them with some black vynol that i picked up from jo ann fabricks, the actually have a decent amount of things in there for interior like headliners and things
I remember a company called "RodDoors" yrs ago made them on ABS in different patterns, from flat to flamed to scallops etc for the ledsleds, coupes, deuces in different lengths & hights.IDK if that would interest you..?..
what is MDF and does anyone got pics of their own made panels?

medium density fiberboard, the stuff most sub boxes are made of. absorbs water like a sponge.
but if you hit it with some waterproof spay paint it seals it pretty good, i've made plenty of speaker boxes for people, so i figured i'd give making door panels a try
I went into home depot today and what i found was some 1/4 plywood, it's not MDF it's plywood. which i thought was perfect so i get one of the workers there to see if they would cut a piece in half so i could get it home (I only got my Camaro) and the guy took me over to some smaller size board and i found the perfect size board all i have to do is trim the corners, i'll post pics tomorrow
