steering linkage snapped?

So the the steering in my 1990 firebird kinda went out on me this weekend, I was driving, trying to adjust the height of the steering wheel and was pushing down on it and it just fell, the steering was working a little bit but when I tried to turn the steering wheel was clicking like it was trying to get stuck, and then when I turned down a side street it got stuck in the turning position, I believe the linkage snapped or something, so I'm looking to just buy a new firebird cheap i found a 1986 V-6 for $500 obo and was wondering if anyone knows if I could use the steering column, linkage, steering wheel, etc, and everything interior in my 1990 firebird from the 1986? If not what would be the year starting I should look for to use in my car?
Thanks for any help

Re: steering linkage snapped?

Did your tilt mechanism finally come completely loose? Was it extra wobbly before this happened?

If so, you may be able to repair what you've got without buying extra parts. If not, most things will swap over except air bag or VATS, if your 90 is so equipped.
