My 2 year old recently lost the keys to my 1987 firebird... i have to take it down to south jersey before winter gets here and continues to ruin my car... i purchased a new lock cylinder (pics tommorow) with keys for 25$
I have no idea where to start to remove the old one and reinstall the new one, PLEASE HELP!

Re: How to change an ignition lock?

You'll need to "rent" a steering wheel puller from Advance or AutoZone. Not sure really how to describe it - like anything else start at the beginning, taking each piece off one at a time and CAREFULLY. The biggest problem is the turn signal lever - there's a cam inside that it moves on (makes it stick and "click") - it's one of thise things where you have to have 4 hands, and 50 fingers that are 1/2 the size of the ones you have. Just disassemble slowly, and get a real close look at where everything is and how it attaches. You don't have an airbag, so it's that much easier.
