Turning on dash lights makes fuel gauge drop

I have an 86 Camaro Sports Coupe. The fuel gauge already bounces up and down, but when I turn on the dash lights, the fuel gauge drops to Empty. Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Turning on dash lights makes fuel gauge drop

I had a similiar problem a couple rears back... When I turned the gauge lights on the gas gauge and the oil pressure gauge would drop to 0 and the speedo and odometer would freeze in place... Only thing that would work was the tac'... Have you removed your gauge cluster at all?? It could be a bad connection were the circuit board of the cluster meets the pins... The littlest offset can screw up the whole thing...

I'll pull the cluster and check. BTW the previous owner installed an aftermarket needle temp/volt/oil gauge.
