IMHO, the Mega Shifter has a wanna-be manual look to it. I've been running a Dual Gate for... well, since you could buy it from Summit. I like it; only problem was / is I couldn't get the steering column-lock cable to hook up.
I been reading and comparing my self an that Hurst Dual/Gate 2 shifter tops off the B&M Mega SHifter by a lot. But the only probloem is trying to get a Hurst Dual/Gate 2 now these days.
One of the things I didn't like about the megashifter is the fact that you cannot be in neutral and put it up in park, It had to be in OD or reverse to put it back in park.
No problem, come to think of it, I believe that once you went out of reverse and into neutral, you had to drop it down into OD before putting it back up into reverse. If you don't like the looks of it, by all means dont buy the megashifter. Not much, if any, better then the stock shifter other than it is a ratchet shifter. Not trying to offend anyone, that's just my opinion.
That looks real dope I would of stick with the black ball shifter, my openion. Hey I was looking at your coustome paint job on your hood what do you got goin on there?
Both great shifters. I have the B&M in my 90 Camaro and it's really easy to use. I don't see the problem with having to put it into drive in order to put into Park. As for the one poster that says it sits too high, it really isn't that bad at all.
I believe I had the other shifter in my 81 Camaro Z28. Great shifter too. My friends would ask me, "how the hell do you use that" then I would show them how to real fast.
Is been a long time when I posted this thread. The news are I got me a megashifter, reason is my neigbor gaved it to me they currently have the Dual Gate Shifter 2, I was like ohh Wot. But hey I can beat free any tips on how to install it. They dont have the instructions any more put it this way they gaved it to me in the Hurst shifter box, lol.
i had a megashifter in my 91 rs and i liked i for bout the first 2 months and then i was out racing and smacked it too hard and went from 1st to reverse at full throttle. eventually i sold my rs and the shifter and picked up a dual gate at a junkyard for free. havent put it in yet cuz my trannys still out hopefully its better than the B&M tho.

i have a dual gate. it has a unique look. and it works pretty well. the megashifter looks alittle cooler. but im not a fan of the detents when u shift.
I think I bought one of the last remaining "affordable" dual gates off of ebay perhaps 10 years ago. Someday I'll get around to installing it (no, it's not for sale).
The last one I seen for sale was on ebay a few years ago; buy-it now price was $700
I'd like to get a shift ball with the newer OD pattern on it; something like this:
I've always thought the Lightning Rods were hokey, but I kind of like them now. Old School is kind of in.
Edit: I just had a thought. Some of the GM shifters in GTO's, Camaros and Firebirds back around 1970-1974 that had TH400's and TH350's had a kind of gated shifter. They didn't have the separate gate, but it had a feature where if in first or second speed, you pushed the stick towards the right and upshifted, it would prevent the stick from over-traveling and bypassing the next gear. Even my '74 6-cylinder Camaro had this shifter. I wonder if this shifter can be modded to work in a 3rd Gen........

THE Hurst is cool looking. and works.
i use the megashifter works 100% of the time. installed right every thing works.. i dont use the race gate.. i like to go into N and the end of the 1/4 mile and shut it down.. i just use the reg gate.. smooth as glass.
no fuss..it still has a R lock out. But thats me..it's just a 10.30 street car.
and works just fine.
and i need a handle on it for the Line lock and the NOS.
(sitting for the last 7 years)
