Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
Hey Everyone,
I always liked how manual transmissios have the booth and everything. I been wanting to buy a stock manual booth and plate to put it in my automatic, has anyone done this before?
Post Pics if so.
Thanks. Tony.

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
I did this on my Mazda 3... It looks the part if you can get the boot over the bezel. You can pick up universal shift boots (black w/ red stitching) at autozone for under 10 bucks... Why not give it a try?

its actually really easy..and looks amazing on mine..ill get some pics..i also have a manual shift nob on it which helped with my grip, considering i have sweaty palms and those t shifters dont cut it for me.
Ill try and get pics tonight assuming my camera is charged.....but take my word for it..it looks REALLY nice..i love it

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
well its not hard at all..take off your outer plate..which exposes the shifter(depending on ur shifter), slip the boot around it..and depending on what shifter you have..you can put the poot over the button or pull leaver..or cut alittle slit in it. i have it over..to hide it..but i can pull it with it on...because you can feel it under it. Get a universal fit one though..dont get car specific. Then the nob..what i did was unscrewed my T nob..put the manual one in it..and put washers over the screws so it fights snug then tightned the screws..and i will never go back honestly. Tomorrow..ill take it apart..take all new pictures and show you how to do it. Now im not sure if its different on different kinds of shifters. So keep that in mind

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
GM beat ya'll to it, back in 1987. That is the way my 87 GTA came stock. Shift boot instead of a slider & the PRND21 pattern beside the shift boot.
I want a 4th gen console, but only if it is from a T56 car.

See, i thought about that too. But hate how it would have the manual icon there and be missing the auto gear indicator, so you wouldn't be able to see what gear you're in.
Found this though, addresses the problem i have, iif it could work.
That's more along the ideas of the kind of mod I was thinking about.

You can always modify the stock unit & make your own boot. With real leather to boot(pun).

Thanks, Not too difficult either.I did this way back in 96.Thats the 2nd boot Ive had to make.First one cracked from all the folds after some 5-6 years.Topped it off with the Ind window from a Berli after i made the second boot.

Ive seen them on 91 GTAs.So im guessing all automatics up to 92 had the boot.
I tried cutting that section out to graft on the camaro piece.Too much work though.

I have yet to see a 3rd gen Firebird WITH a slider, I thought all of them came with boots (both manual and auto)...maybe not the early 3rd gens, but definitely the later...

That shifter knob is stock for that year.I think only the Z28 got it leather wrapped though.Maybe up to 87 before they switch to the T-handle, not sure though.

Only the window is from the berli. Its a very thin strip of plastic. The rest of the shift ind is original. The berli's is black w/white letters. The blue is from the ind window, not so much from the LED

Re: Manual Shift Booth On Automatic?
I got one of those black/red leather boots from auto zone and stapled it to the bottom of the plastic cover plate. I got some PVC pipe and fandagled a way to attach a HURST T-handle shifter to my auto transmission instead of the stock shifter. I don't have a button this way but I have to push the shifter down to shift. It sounds ghetto but actually works pretty well. I'll post some pics tomorrow.
