Need a new dash

Where can you get a replacement dash for a 1990 Iroc without breaking the bank? It has the typical cracks. I dont want to hide it.

Re: Need a new dash

i found mine on craigslist.com ... i paid $80 for it and it has one crack that you can barely see even if you know where to look. i drown it in armor all to try to keep it from getting worse.. all in all a super buy! i also got a set of nearly new door panels with armrests and the top plastic pieces (no cracks) for $30 from craigslist also... score! you just have to keep your eyes peeled and good deals will spring up.

Re: Need a new dash

Yeah that's my plan right now. I didn't know if any retail stores had one for a decent price or not.

eBay is where I found mine - got it for $200 which was a steal since it's flawless.

If you do succeed in finding a good one - DO NOT USE ArmorAll - that's the worst thing for dashes - it makes them crack worse. Get a silicone free product, such as the Turtle Wax stuff (I think it's called F21). I talked to a reproduction replacement place when I got mine, and their tech support said ArmorAll actually voided their warranty. They suggested simply using Windex to clean the dust off, and ONLY ever applying a conditioner 4-5 times a year and only when necessary (like for a show).

I also keep mine covered ALL the time with a $30 carpeted cover that is shaped like the pad - that way sunlight never sees it. Even at the shows I leave it covered! If a Judge wants to see it, then they can ask. I can buy myself trophies all day long at the trophy store for cheap - dash pads are harder and harder to come by!

I think the problem is when ArmorAll is put on a long neglected dash. When I bought my GTA a couple of years ago the inside was filthy and the dash looked very dry (but not cracked), the first thing I did was put a good coat of ArmorAll on the dash and within a week it looked like the grand canyon ran straight down the center.

Back OT, I heard that Classic Industries sells new OER dash pads, but they're pretty expensive.

Re: Need a new dash

Can you post some pics of your dash? I second craigslist. $80 is a steal, i see them sometimes for $150 or $200. New reproduction is $400 I believe. There are some threads on here for repairing cracks. I might try it since I have slight cracking at corner edges.

Best process I could determine:
- cut away any damaged material
- fill void with evercoat maxim urethane adhesive
- sand
- spray repair area with SEM texture coat black paint
- spray entire board with black paint

$50 for adhesive and both sprays.
