Old style shifter idea

Has anyone removed the console in their camaro and fabbed up a shifter for their 5-speed that looks a lot like the older style they used in the 60's muscle cars, without a center console

I've never seen it done. I don't think you would be happy removing the center console. To much open space. But i'm sure they make long shifters for the T-5.
