Is my 1986 trans ams speedo cable driven? I have a lt1 swap that I just bought and the speedo doesn't work. It does twitch when I shut the car off. The guy also said that it did work before he swaped the engine. The tranny is a 700r4. So any suggestions on how to fix the speedo are highly apriciated.

No, electric. Swap in an electric VSS and you should be good to go.

I'm not to sure. Is there any other signs to tell if he did.
Remove the pass side hush panel and take a peek to be absolutely sure. The wiring from the ECM comes into the engine bay on the pass side through the fender. However, it's absence may only mean that the wiring has been hacked.
