Gloss or satin black spray for trim/dash?

I've tried searching but didn't get a lot of results. I have an old b-panel trim piece along with dash pad that needs to be resprayed black. I am not sure what would match stock look best, gloss or satin black. Window trim pieces seem to have a gloss finish to them but I think that gloss spray paint would probably look too shiny. Also I read on other dash repair threads that gloss spray on dash would be bad due to excessive glare. I'm thinking satin black is what I need but looking for some opinions. Also, do I need vinyl spray for dash or is any plastic spray ok? Thanks!

I think satin black would be your best bet, gloss will be too shiny. Vinyl spray should work fine, but make sure the part is super clean first. I like to wipe down plastic pieces with mineral spirits before spraying, to remove any remaining dirt or oil.

Go with satin. I just finished the interior in my car and sprayed it satin. Its a great match
KRYLON makes a spray called FUSION......is specifically made for spraying plastics. It worked for me .....check out my garage and you ccan see the pics.

Re: Gloss or satin black spray for trim/dash?

Thanks for the replies! Martin Landau black? I googled SEM Landau and it seems a favorite choice for interiors and has the right amount of "glossyness" http://www.chevelles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179586

I'm going to pick up some Landau since I need SEM texture paint too. My rear hatch sunshade is badly faded to purple. Looks like I can spray fabric with Landau too.

I used spot puddy and went over it a couple times until the crack was gone then sprayed it with rust-oleun undercoat. Didn't spray anymore area then where I fixed it. It was a perfect match in color and texture.

Would anyone know the sem color for trim in our gray firebird interiors?

Re: Gloss or satin black spray for trim/dash?

I agree with everyone else here about the satin finish. Only because gloss will be too dangerous for the dash pad. At the right angle while it's sunny, a gloss dash pad will cause a bad reflection on your windshield making it hard for you to see.
