4Th Gen Rear Seats?

Are 4th gen rear seats a direct bolt-in swap for our cars or is some modification required?

Right now the inside of my car is completely gutted, with plastic shopping bags over the pedals, steering wheel and shifter while the POR-15 and undercoating finishes curing before the new carpet goes in.

I was really digging the idea of black leather 4th gen seats.

Re: 4Th Gen Rear Seats?

They are a direct bolt in. Depending on your car, there may be two small horizontal pieces that could still be seen. Some cars had the 2 piece split rear seats, and the split seats mounted to these horizontal bars on the hump in the center, and the 4th gen seats are all one piece I believe. Since you are gutted, you could cut them out if you have them, or cover them with the carpet, or just leave them - painted black they wouldn't be seen inbetween the black leather seats.

Re: 4Th Gen Rear Seats?

When I put 4th gen seats, front & rear, in my 92 RS, I never noticed those 2 pivot bars showing any, for the split seats after putting the solid back 4th gen piece in. So I wouldn't worry too much about having to hide them.

But in my GTA, I chose to leave the 3rd gen split rears in & only put 4th gen front seats in. Now I have a "3 seater". Only 1 of the rear split backs. Nobody can fit behind my 6' 5" frame anyways! ")

Re: 4Th Gen Rear Seats?

Thanks for the replies guys. I currently have a few more things to do before the seats go back in. Gotta pick up another can of undercoating today to finish up the drivers side floor.

On the plus side, My fears fortunately did not come true when ripping the carpet up.

For a 25 year old car with about 180k, I was surprised. This car had absolutely NO ROT on the floorpans. The only rust spots I could find were a couple stray surface rust specs and in the seams where the pans meet the rockers there was some surface rust just starting to form. I chiseled up a good deal of that body filler that was actually retaining water, hit any and all surface rust areas with a layer of POR-15, then once that dried went over the entire floorpan, lower firewall and rear of trans tunnel With Rustoleum professional undercoating.

Re: 4Th Gen Rear Seats?

Yeah - my split seat bars don't really show I guess. It's probably more of a "I know it's there and it bothers me" kinda thing - but it doesn't bother me enough to change it!
