speedometer needle jumps by 5 mph back and forth!!!!!
1983 z28 camaro.
i have a factory gauge cluster with a 165 mph speedometer. as soon as the needle leaves zero it rises like it should but it bounces up and down with a range of about 5mph. what could it be and how do i fix it?
Re: speedometer needle jumps by 5 mph back and forth!!!!!
Probably got a sticking speedo cable. You can probably just pull it out and lube it up as long as the sleeve isn't kinked, burned, or otherwise damaged.
Re: speedometer needle jumps by 5 mph back and forth!!!!!
The 85 mph cluster in my sport coupe had the same problem I replaced the speedo cable but still did it. Turned out it was the actual speedo head itself. It's probably just the cable but the head might be bad as well.
Good luck
Alex
