cant get speedo out

Car: 91 RS, 93 k1500
Engine: 350
Transmission: T5, NV3500
Axle/Gears: stock
cant get speedo out

im pulling the dash on my camaro and i have everything out except the speedo and that seems to be holding me up. if anyone can tell me how to get the speedo out or has another idea of what might be stuck please let me know.

Did you disconnect the speedo cable? There's a black steel clip that snaps on the cable where it meets the back of the cluster. Press the tab on the clip towards the cluster and it'll release.

i found it alot easyer to take the two bolts on the steering coloum an drop it down so it be alot easyer working on replacing speedo an such

You probably won't be able to get back there with a hand... Use a long screwdriver to press the tab.

I've got a crappy pic of what it looks like. If you can peek back there and see the position of the clip, you can then use a screwdriver to hold it down while you pull it out. Make sure there's not any tension on it (or even push the cluster in a little) when you depress the clip or it probably won't release.

i was able to get at it with the dash hanging down alittle while laying under it with my arm around to the top pulling on the cable.

Just pulled one from an 86 IROC last night. Drop the steering column, take the frame clip that hold the speedometer cable under the hood down by the exaust manifold off. Then you can push extra cable through the firewall so that you can easily reach the clip on the back of the speedometer.
