cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

Anybody used Cipher race seats the cheap $225 a pair with sliders?
Or eBay F1 style with sliders? I know they need tracks... But wondering how comfy they are for street use. My 86 ta front seats are junk. Cheap is key. Don't really have the money. But small spring in drivers seat keeps scratching everyone and ripping cloths

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

This is old, but not sure if you got good info. I actually purchased their second level seats. They are nice. My only issue was that their custom seat bracket maker stopped supporting their seats, so two options. Fab them myself or buy Planted brackets at $150 a piece. I fabed them because I am 6'5" and need to fit! that was a pain to make them, but I am done and theyre in. I am happy with them. Nice materials and look really nice. They are a bit hard, but all race seats are. If you want cush, get a set of forth gen seats. Cipher are memory foam... just not a ton of it. I got the CPA2001 in tan. The $200 seats are just lower grade fabrics. Actually, more like fabric than appolistery. Let me know if you want to see photos. I don't have any on my computer at this sec, but I can get some and post.

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

It was pretty tough to make custom brackets. 3rd ten floors are not even at all. Took a lot of bending and welding. Part of my problem is I am so tall. I could not raise the seat at all. I actually lowered the pan 1". I am in Michigan, US rough winter! Car is currently stored, but I was hoping to get to it to take pics. My local club had some interest too. I will see if I can do that, but it will take a little bit. Right now it is -20 wind chill. Obviously I am not going out there today. I will try soon.

cipher race seats or ebays 5 a pair??-img_1120.jpg

I found a shot on my cell when I was working on the center council. It isn't great, but it is a start. Hopefully I can get a shot in it. It is hard to tell scale from this. Unfortunately this is all I have right now.

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

The problem with all these race seats is what to do with the shoulder belt. That's why I went with fourth gen firebird seats. They keep me in place really well. They were just what I could find at the time but I really like them. I think they're a lot more snug than the 4th gen Camaro seats, but I prefer the look of integrated headrests.

I'll probably get some race seats like that if the day ever comes that I get a rollcage, then I can run a harness through them.

Yeah, its ok though when I redo my headliner I will be ditching the factory belts anyway I think, I'm going "street legal" racer with it so roll cage and 5pts are definitely happening. Those seats do look good though, they match up pretty well

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

it's funny that I found this post. I'm going to get the CPA1008's from Cipher. They make all the popular styles without the shotty quality of the ebay seats. The seats I'm getting are not reclineable, but from all the reviews I read the biggest problem with ebay seats are the reclining mechanisms and cheap fiberglass.

I'm getting these next week, will post pics when they arrive

I'm thinking about getting these seat but what all would I have to do if I don't have brackets? Make them or can I use factory brackets?

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

Three options:
1: make adapter plates from the top of the original brackets to the bottom of the new seats (don't use the brackets that come with the new seats). This will make them several inches higher than the stock camaro seats because the camaro brackets really barry into the seats and they won't with the new ones.
2: make custom brackets. This is what I did. I am really tall (6'5") I wound up designing the brackets so the new seats are an inch lower than the stock seats. This was really tough to do. I did a ton of mockups out of cardboard. Had them laser cut out of 3/16th steel, bent the steel and welded legs on... not easy, but they work great!
3: buy them for $150 a piece grin "Planted" they make a really nice part (I have heard) though they still will put the seats at or slightly above the current seat. I think it really depends on how think the seat pan is.

Anyway. If your of average height your options go way up. Real bummer that Cipher isn't making brackets anymore. I ordered them from their website, but then they called me and said they couldn't get them anymore. That really sucked and left a bad taste as well as put a lot of work on my lap, but I am happy with the seats and their installation now.

Good luck,

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

I luckily didn't have all these slider and bracket issues.
For my NRG seats all I had to do was drill a new hole in each slider they then mounted right up. Took like an hour total haha.

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

You mean on your stock sliders? That is pretty cool. I think the Cipher ones were a little too wide so it would have needed an adapter plate. That would have been nice. Still glad I made my brackets. I get the seats down an inch for my height. It was a lot of work, but I am really happy I did. I still need to take them back out for powder coating so I will get some pics.

The NRG seats where my 2nd option... how do you like them? They look awsome! The Cypher seats that I want are non adjustable and I have not decided if that was going to be a problem. How is the adjust ability of the NRG seats?

Re: cipher race seats or ebays $225 a pair??

Biggest problem I think you will see is actually using the backseats. I put my kids back there at times. If you were planning to go nonadjustable I would just delete the backseats all together. You could make whatever bracket you want then. Years ago they use to sell a capered panel that would screw into the same front holes as the back seat panels do. You could always make the same thing.

Good luck,
I'm coming into this late, but arcticwhiteZ is dropping some great knowledge on you.

Like y'all, I'm tall (6'5"). I wanted to sit LOWWWWWW.

I tumbled to Fiero seat brackets. They sit 1 inch lower than the stock Firebird brackets. That doesn't sound like much, but in reality, it does A LOT!

The only problem is, it ***** the front of the seat over to the left, a bit. If you look at the pics arcticwhiteZ posted closely, you can see it. It just takes a little work with a Dremel tool or a rat-tailed file to correct.

I used to tilt my seat wayyy back, and I still sat too high. Now, I have to lean forward and crane my neck to see the nose of my car when I'm parking.

It's a great, cheap solution for tall people in 3rd Gens.

That is #4,

Actually, probably the easiest one. I forgot about those thank you.

I actually learned about this option too late (maybe why I forgot it in my list). I think that is probably a really good option. Much easier than fabricating it like I did. Sure, making it gives you a ton more options for placement. My seats will slide back far enough for Hightower from Police Academy to sit in my car (did I just date myself?). They will go back to about a 1/2" from back seat. I set them so I would sit about in the center of the seats travel. I don't know my platform shoes will come back in and I will need the space (I am not actually that old). Attached is a really bad pic of my installation (still working on the center council).

Its a long shot as its a old thread. Just wondering what model NRG Seats these are? Im looking at the NRG Innovations RSC-200. These look similar but the ones I'm looking llook wide between seat bolster, near arm rest. I didn't want to order them if they are to wide. Anyone know if the model I'm looking at will work? I cant return once i order and pricing is pretty decent.

thanks
