LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

Got a question, I got an 84 camaro and I found a fuel tank with pump and sender unit from a 1993 Camaro 6cyl that was fuel injected. Will that work? My car was origianlly carbed so it needs a tpi pump and sender unit. Please let me know if this will work cuz I can get it for real cheap.

Yes it will work without any problem. You're main issue will be to have a return fuel line to the tank. Make sure you use a high pressure fuel filter and everything will be fine.
Something else is that LT1 from camaro has driver side fuel lines. 84 camaro with carb as passenger fuel line. check that out ...
make sure you do not pass fuel lines in front of the motor, it's very dangerous. Sliced fuel lines, fuel and high pressure pump is not a mix with exaust manifolds !
You take headman headers and Y-pipe for 3rd gen F-body... you take a dremel to have them the shape the way your exaust port is and you bolt them to the motor !
that's it !

The filler neck on the 4th gen tank is actually too long. I put a 4th gen tank in mine when I did the swap, but I had to shorten the filler neck. I don't remember how much longer it is, but it would have stuck outside the car.

could allways use the LT1 vette fuel rail, it exits on the passenger side.
Also the return line is there on the carb car, the 1/4 inch 3rd line going to the pump is a return.

Really old thread, but I need some info. The filler neck has to be cut? Any pics of this?
why do you need a new or diff gas tank. i think you can even change the fuel pump with out dropping the tank.
I think I need the sending unit assembly for the 4th gen gauges I put in. I also need a fuel pump for the LT1 swap so I figured on just using all 4th gen fuel components. Having second thoughts if I have to go modifying the LT1 tank.

As for the neck. I read somewhere that all you had to do was cut the 4th gen down some. It has a rubber coupler mid neck that can come apart. Thats where you cut it IIRC

I'll have to look for a picture. I don't recall seeing them with a rubber coupler.
I recommend getting a LS1 tank and removing the internal fuel pressure regulator in it for a LT1 setup. LS1 pumps are better. I don't think LT1 pumps are any superior to TPI/TBI pumps, could be wrong though.
The LS1 tank has the rubber fuel neck. LT1 has steel, does not have rubber fuel neck. The LT1 steel neck would have to be cut then welded back on, that doesn't sound fun or completely safe.
99-02 LS1 tanks are plastic. 98 LS1 tank is steel and I would assume has the steel fuel neck, LT1 tanks are all steel.
LS1 tanks are not a direct bolt in. The gauge will read different, I still haven't set mine up. Fuel lines have to be modified, etc.
LS1 tank is the way to go. I switched over to one for this build. Also running a Lonnies Performance dual in-tank pump setup with the correct fuel level sender for the '92. The only issues I had were shortening the filler neck and bending the straps to hold the tank in. Other than that it was fairly straight forward.
