VATS on LT1

I'm thinking about installing a '94 LT1 into my 87 firebird. My major concern is about bypassing the VATS system. I live in Southwestern Ontario and currently know no one who can reprogram the ECM. Any help is appriciated. Thanks guys!

Does anyone know where I can have the VATS programmed out of my PCM? Alternatively, is there a VATS bypass module I can get? (were all '94 LT1's VATS equipped, and OBD1??) Any help is much appreciated!!

Painless wiring makes a bypass module for vats. I am using one on my LT1. I plan on getting my Computer reprogrammed when I get some money. I will be using www.pcmforless.com to program mine. I also will have vats removed. If you have any questions you can e-mail me, and I will be glad to help.

If all you want to do is knock out vats, buy the cable and tunercats. it will cost you as much as the the vats kit, and let you tune your motor!

Ion at www.madz28.com does some great work. You can ship him your PCM and have it back in week. He programmed mine and it turned out to be a major difference. His prices are extremely reasonable.

Re: VATS on LT1

i retired from GM there are alot of guys asking about VATS...all and any 1994-1996 LT-1 powered chevy caprice police package DO NOT USE A VATS...never have ...the way to identify them is very simple...all of us chevy guys know that GM imbedded a chip in the SQUARE KEY ONLY thats VATS...all police cars stemming all the way back to the late 70s from what i can remember USE A ROUND KEY IN THE IGNITIONS,DOORS,TRUCK,GLOVEBOX ....they will be silver BOTH THE KEY AND LOCK (the lock in the steering column) even back into the 70s...so save ur money and get a 1994-1996 9c-1 ecm...they do not have the vats in them ...never were produced from delco THIS IS ONLY IN THE YEARS I METIONED ...any questions all can call 910-219-5577 ask for JD

Ok, I have one for ya. We have a 94 caprice police package wagon and its having a VATs issue. Car has been in service 4 the school since new. No dumb mods..
Batt was unpluged while some head work was done and now it will fire up and run then shut off in 2-3 seconds.
It has the chrome lock and round keys.
the code has something to do with inj pulse shutdown or something like that..
Its kind of weird, called the dealer and they said that car doesnt have VATS, we know that but its not what the scanner is telling us!!!!! we maybe calling you!!
