I know the 91/92 cars would stall out when you came to a stop due to the lack of the VSS reference. Got annoying driving my camaro around wiht the T56 and have it stall out at every light

if vss is not connected you will lose cruise control, your electronic speed limiter, as well as your torque converter lock up if you have an automatic trans.

I left mine unhooked for about a month, to eliminate the speed limiter until I got the speedometer adjusted for 4:10's (limiter was kicking in around 70mph, not good!). It seemed to run fine, but through an occasional SES light.

i quess i should have been more specific, it is for a lt1 swap. i have it hooked up to my 700r4 the speedo is just off. is there any way to use the vss from a 4l60e? i looked at the vss from a 95 and it is completely diff it dosnt use gears to drive it. I quess my question is is there any way to convert the 700r4 to except the 95 vss?

Ah.
There are a couple places that sell conversion boxes. Not sure which one you need, but I'm sure a search of the boards will provide the info.

Your speedo is off, or doesnt move at all ?

As far as using a 4th gen sender, the sender will bolt into the tail housing just fine, the problem is that the metal gear they use to trigger the sensor seems to either be an integral part of the output shaft, or pressed on, not something you can just pop right into your 700R4.

Thats odd to hear one actually worked at all with a 700R4's sender, the one I had in a car I couldnt get a speed signal out of the computer at all, tried swapping the vss even though it was good, didnt help, you *should* I believe be able to reprogram the pcm to accept the lower speed pulse of your 700, but again I havent witnessed it actually work correctly yet. Same car I swapped in a 4L60E, speedo came right back no problem.

if you have a automatic, the torque converter wont lockup.. and long drives (espically hwy driving) risk overheating your transmission.

you can use the 700R4 VSS with the LS1s... if you have HPtuners, you can type the values right in..

but i dont know about the LT1 cars... i could ASSume it can be changed....

I have an 84' camaro with a 95' lt1 and 4l60e swap. My cruise control doesn't work, can someone help me out? Also, my transmission seems fine, how do I tell if it isn't locking up?? Finally, if I switch to electric autometer gauges I shouldn't have to worry about any of this right? Currently my fuel gauge is wacky, and my temp gauge doesn't work, the speedo cable broke but was working for a short time, although I don't know how accurate it was.

You'll know if you're tranny is not locking up if you have high rpms on the highway.

Is your swap finished? Engine and transmission running good?

Either your temp gauge isn't working or the wire from the temperature sensor on the LT1 isn't connected. Its also possible that you have a bad temperature sensor, if you do then replace it - it will throw everything off for the fuel injection.

You could switch to 91-92 camaro gauges, it would work also. Should have way less problems swapping with the 4L60E.

I've got 3.42 gears and I think it does 70 or so at 2500rpms, in overdrive.

Yes, the swap is done, I'm just trying to iron out a few kinks right now. The car ran great for a while, until it ran out of gas one day. I've been having all kinds of minor issues since.

I'm planning on doing an Autometer Phantom electric gauge setup in the near future, that should take care of any and all gauge related issues anyway right?

I would think those gauges would. Make sure the speedo is one for a 4000 pulses per mile input.

Are you using the 4th gen cruise control, that would probably be the easiest way to have cruise control.
