LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

I have used 5 of the bakerelectronics bypass modules off of ebay. They have always worked great and have never been disappointed, if you need a bypass module for vats get one from them. You will not be disappioned and they are only 29.95 shipped. Ordered mine on thursday afternoon and it was here on monday. Anyway it is an alternative to having the pcm reprogramed .
Programmed out of the PCM, no need for a vats bypass
I would get the bypass box and wire it in with a connector. Put it where its easy to get to so you can take it in and out. This way if you're ever in a big city or somewhere not familiar, you can take it out and have piece of mind that your car will still be there when you return to it. Just an idea.
I agree with you as far as having it programed out, but I didnt have the software and wasnt going to spend the money to have a few things programed out just to get it running. going to tune it myself and get all the other bs out of the pcm when I am able to get the funds up. Good idea stngklr.

I guess that's just the things of living in a small town. Largest city my car will ever see is probably Bristol or Nashville. However, my car never had VATS on it, so I just took it out.
Besides, if they want the car, they'll figure a way to get it.
If your Car has VATS (like my 91 Firebird). Can't you program the PCM to the the resistor in the Key or order a NEW Key which fits to the Resistor Value in the PCM?
When doing swaps you dont have any way to find out the resistance of the key if you dont have it. I put in a 97 pcm which runs the vats throught the BCM not the vats module. You can have the VATS turned off in the pcm but you cant program the the pcm for a specific key. The PCM looks for a square wave signal from the VATS module to keep the fuel coming.
So IF you got the original Key, you can measure the resistor and order a new Key for your existing lock with another, matching resistor in it?
And if you don't have the original Key. Can't you do trial and error with the 15 differed values? As far as i know there are 15 different resistor values combined with the individual keyprofile on the Passkey I system. The same on Passkey II plus a delay of several minutes if the resistor-values don't match. Or is there something i miss
Got me, I really dont dont if the vats module will work with the newer pcm or not. I spent 25.00 and about 2 minutes wiring it and was done, I was to the point where all I wanted to do was finish running wires and be DONE. In my opinion the money is well worth it in the time and headache spent trying to figure out what resistor to use and if it will work. I have read alot of posts on here and I havent seen anything about it.
Wish i could do that lol i just bought a 91 Rs camaro and it has the VATs system in it.. what i didnt know is that the lady that i got the car form had lost the key. so im stuck tring to find someone dealership or anyone that can get the code or a way around it without knowing the resistance.
Hmm.... Speeking of Dealerships: How about flashing the whole PCM with the Tech2? If they do this to a stock Car they got to get the anti theft system to work also. Same when they replace a faulty one.
