LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

I have friends with fourth gen ls1 and every time the did a mod they either payed somebody to tune it or buy a laptop + tuning software = $1500-2000. I can tune with a srew driver for free.Plus I think it looks a lot nicer.
Nice job. I know what you mean about the tuning crap. A chunk of money in mods go to tuning.
I have a question, though. How do the coil packs work without the EFI? I thought you had to put a distributor on.... This is making me want to do a carbed LS7 in my dad's 69 Camaro ....as soon as they start selling LS7s for like 1000 bucks. lol
There are two ignition boxs out there one you can buy as a part as the edebrock carb swap kit.The other is MSD.They both read the stock LSX crank and cam sensors. the msd version can be tuned with a hand held programer they both come with 6 different preset timing curve pills that can be swithed outvery easy.
thanks guys. Maro man you have almost the same set up I pulled out of the car except mine had ac and a 150 shot.
And, we both have an '87 Iroc white with gold. What times did you run with the 150 shot on your 305? I like the look of the carb setup better, its much more intimidating. -Nick.
Yep..very very nice, hows it feel compaired to the ol 305? Ive been thinking about this swap my self, what headers are those. The ls1 swap headers do seem pricey..Again very nice!
I never made a pass with the 150 shot. the difference between the 305 and the 6.0L is night and day. I made the headers my self with dynatech 3/8" flanges and 3'' collectors and a box full of 1 5/8 mandrel j-bends from summit.
I looked into the hawks headers and $1100 was out of my budget. with the tubing, flanges, collectors, and header wrap i have $250 in my set.not considering my time
I love the fact that you went carb instead of the usual LSX swap.

That is awesome man. that is the same swap i am doing right know. Mine is taking for ever. I hardly ever have time to work on it. I am thinking the carb may be the way to go also. But between the carb and the intake don't you spend like 1000 dollars? I have the factory fi set up, so i guess i will try that. I have a laptop and hp tuners already for the 02 silvy I have. I just wish i could figure it out. I know what you mean every upgrade i make back to the computer and i am no computer guy. And if you go fast 90\90 setup that is outragues to. I guess a cowl hood is a must with this swap? Great header idea, I was wondering about a set of old school long tubes made for an82-92 and getting a flange and just making the two go together some how. that would include tons of fab time for me. Anyway awesome car i hope mine is half as nice as yours

The carb, intake , and the ignition box was about $1000, but i would have bought a ls6 or a fast 90/90 intake because the stock truck intakes are not that good, so it was about the same price as doing that plus I didnt have HP Tuners. Also the stock efi intake is taller than the vic. jr plus the Demon carb with out the breather on. The cowl hood is a must if you want to run a breather, the truck motor acc setup wont clear any hood that I know of, the alt is about a 1 inch taller than the carb. So I swaped my p/s pump water pump, alt, and all brackets to fourth gen f body.
The only new pics I have are of the nos carb plate and the new breather. The weather has been bad here so the car has not been out in over a month its killing me to fill this thing on a 150 shot so here are the pics and I will get a vid as soon as weather permits.
i see in the latest pics youve swapped to an msd box.
any reason?
The msd box has an adj. rev limiter, it will retard timing for n2o, and has a bult in 2-step rev limiter. its just a better box all the way around and is a must to run n2o.
Dyno #'s from this weekend
355hp & 348tq all motor
456hp & 498tq on spray
I think the ls1 heads are choking the 6.0L down a little so I am swaping them for a a set of ls2 heads that came off a friends 05 GTO.
yea, same reason i ended up with an msd box, LOL.
dont be fooled by the 317 head, it has ls6 runners, but short on compression.
not sure on your cam, but the stock heads should do anything you need to.
id like to see a comparison.
are you doing a back to back dyno check?
243 head im assuming?
good luck!

The heads that are on the motor now are the 853 castings, so thats why i think the ls2 heads will flow better. My am is 232*/240* .595-.608. What do you think

ill take a wild gas and say with a touch of compression and the better runners it pics up 10hp or so, maybe a lil flatter tq.
looks like a decent cam.
any track times with the setup?
Have you looked at the new L92 heads? It sounds like the LS2 heads were a good deal for you but if you have to buy heads the L92's have flow rates comparable to the LS7 and are super cheap.

287/191 cfm at .600 lift.
The stock L92 heads flow more like 320-330 at max.
LS1 tech show them @ 328/215 at .600 Max exhaust is 218 @ .650 Some companies have ported them and got close to 360 CFM. Had to increase the runner volumn though.
I'm planning to do a 408 LQ9 with the L92 top end and Torquer V.2 from Texas Speed (.595/.598 232/234 112LSA).
To swap to the l92 heads that would require a different intake, And I traded labor for the set of ls2 heads Ive got so I got the heads for $0.00, just my time.
Not a bad deal in the heads then. But, it's something I would look at down the road. There are some pretty serious gains to be had with the L92s over the LS2 heads. And I think that they may already have a carb intake for them. Not sure though.
the intake is out there and the hp gains are very nice, sounds like a good winter project. that will give me a chance to save up some money and just drive the car
this is really inspiring!!!..exactly something that i want to do..how much did this cost??? and what did you do with all the wiring and what not?? and what did you have to do with the transmission???

thats not the cam id put on a L92 headed motor.
better results are comming from cams with bigger splits due to the massive ports.....
good luck.
Bigger splits? You mean more of a difference in the between the intake lift and duration? The reason I was leaning towards that cam is that it seems to make good power low to higher RPMs without having to rev the engine (in H/C LS1s). The car will see alot of auto-x and some road racing. I may have to reconsider my cam when I start the build and see what others are using to get the results I want.

duration. yes sir.
i havent dealt with the heads directly yet, but im lurking into info on them and from what i read and hear they like a 8-10 degree split on the duration side.
say 232/242.
ask the guys in know before you spend money.
not trying to tell you what to buy, just be cautious.
good luck!
Doh, shoulda been more specific... what are you using to keep the ride height? Ive got my LS1 in and it still looks like its got an empty bay haha.
Thanks
my car picked up 60 pounds with an iron block swap over a 350 small block.
actually set the front end down more than my liking for drivability, but it looks DAMN sweet.
anyone wanna trade? 6.0 block for ls2.... com'n.
haha.
