this may perhaps belong on a 4th gen board but I figure quite a few of you have done it I've got a wrecked (passenger frame rail & suspension, core support) '94 trans am LT1/T56 sitting in the driveway right now, I know the best (maybe only?) way to get the engine out is to drop the crossmember.. how do you accomplish this task in the driveway? Im having trouble picturing it in my head

Probably lift the body off the K member with a cherrypicker.

maybe, the legs of the cherry picker however prevent rolling around from the engine, or pulling the engine forwards, and i would imagine if you tried to roll it out of there sideways (however the heck i would do that) the car would practically have to be standing on end

dunno, will probably dig into it over the weekend, i think it has a full tank of 8 yr old gas in it, ugh. I'd like to try and get it fired up before I pull it out just to see if it even in fact runs, just cranks right now though, I dont hear the fuel pump kick on.

the passenger steering knuckle is broken off so if the idea is to roll it away on the crossmember even thats going to be a pain with my wheels trying to go in different directions.. i might cut out the core support and go straight out the front.. i feel sad for the car but noone (including myself) is going to want to pay for the frame repair and body work on a mostly plain jane 94 trans am.. its a light metallic purple color I dont think ive seen before and its mostly in good shape

I got 3 good WS6 rims and tires with the damn thing too, 3 is my magic number i think, can never get the 4th.. so frusterating

You can pick up a shop crane for a few hundred bucks and most rental places have them. You bolt the crane hooks to the block and jack it up like a regular jack. Just take out the engine mount bolts and tranny crossmenber along with any wires and hoses and she pops right out.

6 bolts in the crossmember, 6 bolts at the strut towers, un-do the steering linkage, hoist the front of the body up and the engine comes out.

furniture dollys will do the trick. i supported the engine and tranny (still attached to the k-member including struts and all) with the funiture dollies while unbolting everything. Then i strapped my engine hoist around the front impact bar and lifted the car up very high. I rolled the drivetrain out from the side and it was fairly painless. Here are some pictures:
