LS2 In A Thirdgen Help

Well I have a good deal on a wrecked complete 05 GTO. I'm just wondering how hard it'll be for this swap as opposed to an LS1 swap. I'm nit sure if I would like to use the DBW. How much will i be able to use of the car. I know I need the Camaro oil pan, motor mounts and tranny cross member. I'm just not sure if it would be easier to get a complete Fbody drive train or just use this and modify the few peices. Who has actually done a comeplete swap. Thanks I searched but am hopeing for a little more info. Thanks

Re: LS2 In A Thirdgen Help

I did a Ls1 Swap into my 89 camaro. I think it would be the same as the LS1 to bolt up using all the correct parts. As far as the wiring.... you may need to call speartech. they might be able to help you. Good luck

Re: LS2 In A Thirdgen Help

It's not that different. Since it sounds like you've got a donor car, you'll have almost everything you need (keep the harness, ECM and sensors). It'll mount in the car the same way an LS1 would, so use the k-member/motor mount tips you'll find here.

If you don't want the DBW then buys a cable throttle body, but you'll need an F-body or '04 GTO ECM. This is where it could get tricky with the sensors, you need to know which reluctor wheel is in the engine and then the sensor plug on the harness needs to match.

I don't think a DBW conversion would be that hard, since you have the GTO. There are already tips on here for installing the pedal. LS1tech has a conversion forum too, you'll find more info there.

Re: LS2 In A Thirdgen Help

From everything I've read, swapping in the DBW system makes cruise control a piece of cake - you can pitch the ugly thirdgen pieces into the woods since now it's all electronic. And mounting the DBW throttle pedal wasn't real hard for me either.

Re: LS2 In A Thirdgen Help

It will be the same as an ls1 for the most part. I did and LS2 with DBW and it worked just fine. Cruise is great and the throttle body looks good under the hood. I did a 24 tooth reluctor so I could run the LS1 PCM as it has great control with efilive. Contact www.eficonnection.com for your harness. It sucks trying to use a stock harness and make it work with your f body third gen.

Unfortunately, that LS2 died two months ago. A rod broke and two pistons came apart, the block and all internals were damaged as well
It took a few weeks to get a replacement, but it's now getting an LS2 402 from TSP, with a few upgrades over the original conversion. Hopefully I'll get to drive it again before winter.
