LTX and LSXPutting LT1's, LS1's, and their variants into Third Gens is becoming more popular. This board is for those who are doing and have done the swaps so they can discuss all of their technical aspects, including repairs, swap info, and performance upgrades.

They are physically the same. So as far as tranny/engine crossmembers, fuel supply, and I believe even the exhaust its all covered and the same as a ls1 swap. Whats mostly different is the wiring and computer. I know someone here as a LS3 running firebird and I believe A10Beav has a LS2 in his car. LSX is the same as any other ls1/2/3 swap but the block is cast iron.

I was pretty sure someone was running an LS3...but that might have been someone over on Tech.
As Spike-Z stated, the ls2 ls3 lsx motors are the same as an ls1 swap for the most part. Check on LS1 tech and here for the swap stickies and do some more searching...plenty of info floating around.
My swap is essentially the same as an LS3 (all-aluminum 6.2L), the only difference is that my engine's equipped with VVT - and as stated before, the biggest difference swap-wise is to make sure that you have the correct ECM/programming...
Depending on what you're trying to swap in, sometimes other things come into play, such as DBW accelerator pedals & TBs, front-cover assemblies, etc., but for the most part, 90% of everything's already been covered here - and I'm working on documenting some of the remaining 10% (even though it doesn't seem like it, since I haven't posted anything for a while...)
Keep that 'search' button active, & good luck w/ your project.
ok my questions are. with the stock ls computer in the car would all the gauges etc work? is it hard to tune them with the new restrictions on them? also is your trans electronicly controlled or did you go with a T-56?
Either way for all the stock guages to work you'll need to get atleast 1 daktoa digital converter box for RPM. EXTREMELY easy to install and 5 wires, and switch like 3 switches and your done! Speedo will work as well. I went T56 so no ecm there. Oil, temp, volt. all hook up w/ no problem. I just used 3rd gen temp and oil and plugged into the ls block.

If you get tuning software you can adjust the PCM outputs. I used HPtuners to tune the rpm output. Worked great. Maybe the speedo too?? The pcm was setup for a car with 3.23's.. Had to adjust it to 3.73's and change the auto trans shift MPH so I wouldn't bounce off the rev limiter under WOT.
Either the LS2 or LS3 is fine, about the same in terms of price (crate motors) and same external dimensions.
Either can be easily bumped up to 550hp with just a set of L92 heads, L76 intake, and a big roller cam. But the LS3 comes with those heads stock, making it a lot easier to get it all together (cheaper also).
I'm seriously thinking about a LS3 swap into a stripped 92 RS with a 150hp nitrous hit... 700hp in a 3200lb car that gets 25mpg on the highway is my idea of "good sh!t".
I haven't dynoed mine, but have talked with two guys on ls1tech boards that have EXACT same specs, and both dynoed right at 570 Fly HP. AMAZING!!! I've ordered some M/T ET streets, and anxious to get them on and see how it does with some traction!! Then maybe I can think about putting the juice on it. Already have a bottle and lines from old engine, just need the plates. However, Not sure I want to grenade this thing!! Also haven't even come close to needing that extra 100 or 150.
Can't beat this combo!!
oh yeah.... I average right around 24 MPG as well!!! NO ****!!!

Man!! Sounds like you hit the nail on the head with your combo.. 570 CHP and 24MPG!! I would have went with an LS3 but there a lil $$$$. Oh yea.. Get a 9". That 7.5" Not gonna last long.

I have a 418 LS3 in my 90 camaro. Just finished up most of the install 2 weeks ago. Still have the A/C to deal with but that will make for a good winter project. The car is a blast to drive but I am still breaking it in and I have a lot of tuning to do yet.
