LT1 and T56 Swap into 88 GTA

Hi guys im new to thirdgen.org but I am going to be starting a project of putting a 93 LT1 bored to a 355 and a 97 T56 transmission into my car. I know I will need the harness for the engine i believe i can get from JEGS. Then I also know that I will have to grind metal to get the transmission to fit in right but what else will I need for the swap? Will the LT1 be compatable with the t56 tranny?

Also I am buying the transmission alone so will my previous T-5 parts fit with it or will I have to buy newer parts?

Thank You

'97 F-cars had the LT1/T56 - if yours came from a '97 Camaro/Firebird, then it should have no problems.

Why not just get the engine harness from the car the engine came out of?

The T56 uses a different slave cylinder than the T5 does, you might want to get a slave and master cylinder for a T56

As Air_Adam said, LT1's came with T56's originally.

Read this thread and then ask questions.

Re: LT1 and T56 Swap into 88 GTA

I did fully understand exactly what your asking. I completed my T5 to T56 swap a couple of weeks ago, along with rebuilding the trans myself, and working out the design and machining it for a cable drive. I now offer that service to TGO members. It took a ton of research on my part to accomplish all this, but it was worth the effort and many problems I and others encountered are discussed in great length in the thread I linked to.

I'm asking you to actually put forth some effort and not just post a question without doing the research. Read the thread then ask your questions. There are lots of pics and many questions are asked and answered there, for both a T5 and auto swap to a T56.
