I am working on an LT1 and I am wondering how far along you guys got on the engine build before hoisting it into your thirdgen?
Right now I bought the engine with the intake and heads installed. I want to finish the rocker arm install. How much more can I install on the engine stand before hoisting it into the car? Also, where do I attach the hoist - did you guys use chains, straps? Never done this before so I need serious help...

I was able to put all my accesories onto the engine, intake, heads, and the 4l60e tranny and put it into my car as one unit, jsut be careful where you attach your hoisting points. i used an engine crane, with a leveler tool to get more angle on my engine. i went from the back of the passenger side head and the front of the drivers side head.
I put mine in with the T56 bolted up but no accessories on. Used a cherry picker that had both a crank and a hydraulic jack on it with an engine leveler.
I put mine in with a picker and leveler. First time I had everything together, shorties, tranny, accessories, intake, all bolted up.
This last time I left the long tubes off, and also had the intake off since it was powdercoated and I didn't want to chip it up.. other than that same as the first time.
For both times I had the rear up on ramps to add a bit more tilt the car and allow access underneath.

Cherry picker and engine leveler. I like to do the engine and tranny separate. I always have to take off my hood and front bumper but that might be because of the picker I got.
As far as hoisting points go.. did any of you guys actually bolt into the heads or some other part of the engine or just use hooks/straps?
If you did bolt in, where did you? I am planning to have the valve covers installed and maybe the opti/water pump and maybe some accessories if they fit.
i went from the back of the passenger side head, and the front of the driver side head and didnt have any problems, jsut dont use a bolt to long in the back so you cannot get it out becuase the firewall will be in the way
I have used the back of the head and a front intake bolt hole to put it in, pulled it out with an intake bolt hole and a long bolt on the front accessory drive, put it back in with two opposing intake bolt holes.
just make sure the bolt you use are strong and seated deeply into its threads.
i made a lift plate out of a piece of 1/4 inch steel and a pullring from a D8 bulldozer!i drilled holes in the plate to bolt up where the carb would and welded the pullring on top. Has a rated lift capacity of 25 tons, i think it can lift an engine.
