Dyno/Engine Tuning after LT1 swap - Need help ASAP
I know everyone sends their PCM's out to get tuned and what not, but is that all everyone does? I would imagine you need some more tuning to get everything dialed in right and probably on a dyno tune to see where you are getting max power? I doubt just from a simple PCM reprogram that the car will run to its full potential... then again I could be wrong cause I never did this before.
I checked our two big shops near me on Long Island, first SK-Speed said they dont tune LT1 and recommended Vette Doctors. I figure I would have no problem with vette doctors but they dont have the software to tune LT1's!! And the guy I spoke to said he did not know anyone in NY or NJ that did dyno tuning of LT1's... I do not feel like driving 12 hrs to some other state to get my car tuned right.
Someone save my project!! I need some help/ideas here.

From what I have read on cZ28.com most of your big name tunners hit it right about 90% of the time. That being said some guys take it for a dyno tune and only pick up a few ponnies. So if you want ever last bit out of it dyno is the best bet. Most shops are out of the LT's and in to the LS's

Theres a place up here in Albany NY called extreme automotive that specializes in f-bodies. They prolly know a place that can dyno ur car if they cant do it them selves.

if you already bought a pcm tune its not really worth getting a dyno tune, i know the two places i looked into are both very good at what they do as far as tuning for lt1's. its going to be hard to find someone who dyno tunes around your area, i looked too because im from mass and talked to a sponsor on ls1tech and he said its going to be more costly to dyno then get a pcm tune.

Thanks guys... I called around as well, and I was told that the tunes from PCMforless is pretty much dead on for almost all applications... I am going to take that path and dyno the car once its running. If problems occur then I will have to search more.
I am sure people here use tunes from PCMforless... how are you guys doing?

I have had three mail order tunes. First tune got me running good for stock the second for bolt-ons..
as soon as I went a bit more extreme the rollers was the only way to go, the third custom mail order then was only good enough to get me to the dyno barely, on the dyno the car picked up 25 more rwhp and about 30 rwtq. Then we went out driving and tuned out the cam surge etc.. can't match that through the mail the driveability improvement was amazing.. I did drive 8 hours to get it done at www.carolinaautomasters.com and it was money well spent. The first tune was through speartech the other two from www.madz28.com
IMO call the shop in NY mentioned above, there must be some resources in your area even if you have to drive a bit I would say it is very much worth it.
