alright, here's the question. I am going to be building an LS6 from scratch and was looking for a brief summary as to how the initial timing is set. I know its a crank sensor, can it only be put one way? Any chance for being 180* out? I never built anything other than distributor engines, i was just wondering what i could mess up. thanks.

Whoa thats a question I've yet to see posted before you really are green eh? Not to worry we all started that way and I have good news for ya man theres very little you can do to mess up the timing. Only thing that can affect this is not installing the timing chain properly, taking the crank reluctor off ( which requires complete engine tear down its internal ) or messing with the PCM viz HPtuners or another software and changing the tables.

Other than that you can do jack to it so your safe dude dont worry about it.

In a nutshell with LS engines if you provide power to the pink and orange wires. Ground the PCM, disable VATS, add fuel and it will run. They have a pretty simple system thats practically stand alone right from the factory.

Figured as much, just making sure as we already have $5000 into this engine. Can't be careful enough. Should be an exciting car.
