What parts do you have that I need? 03 5.3l 4l60e out of gmc 1500 2wd going in my 86 TA just got home with the engine I bought from Iowa 635 mi. away ready for it to be in and out of my way.
i recently got a hold of a 6.0 drop out also so i'm finally starting my swap. I went with the spohn k-member and a-arms though. I wanted more room up front. Plus I'm counting on a turbo build within a year or so. I just want my car back together and driven lol. Mine is an LQ9 and I'm laid off from work so I can't afford to swap out pistons just yet. So it's getting put in the car until i have the funds to rebuild the 6.0L. Have any advice for the wiring? I'm pretty good with wiring but i havent jumped in to it and it's intimidating me.
nice! that's gonna be nasty brother! FAST intake, 6.0L, t56, can't hide money, lol!

i would have gone G5x4 or similar over that very peaky texas speed cam. Both the ms3 and ms4 are peaky with high numbers, but the G5 cams make more average power. In fact I liked the F13 futral cam as well for good torque and hp numbers.
Did you actually run a G5 cam from LG??? I have been looking at the G5x3 for my H/I swap but I would like to hear how the cam was for daily driving over my 228 cam. Lou says its fine but I would like some other unbiased opinions.
i don't see why it couldn't be daily driven with a good tune.

Thats how my fuel line is run. Ive got plenty of room with the Hawks headers. Well...not a TON of room I guess, but enough where I felt ok with it. Ide still like to avoid the header area all together...but thats for when I decide to make a totally custom line instead of running the 4th gen ones.
Lookin good shel!

Im thinking if my Y gets close to the fuel line im going to heat wrap it for some protection. Will protect my slave line also.
Anyone else noticed that the OEM slave line seems really long?
I bled my clutch also, it feels a bit different then the vette's i drove at work. It feels similar but a bit firmer then my golf (clutch cable 1.9 TDI), im used to the top part of the throw being stiffer till about half way down then it got a bit softer.
Anyone got a LS7 clutch setup that can try to explain the way theirs feels so i can refrence to mine. I guess ill know better when i get driving it.
In the mean time, here's my progress for today.
Engine is in, Clutch hooked up, pedals mounted, clutch bled, i have the rad sitting in and hoses mocked up, Made my fuel feed, though im goin to re-do it as its a bit long, not finalized of course. Gonna do my wiring tommorow while i wait for metal to do my crossmember and wait for my headers to arrive.
From there its mostly bolting stuff together. Progress is being made! Very happy!
Photographic evidence:
Underdrive is tiny!
Thanks to justin(Ghettocruiser) for the shifter hole haha. Printed his pictures and cut it identical to his, this guy knows his ****, proof:
Fuel feed
More updates tommorow night w/ wiring & cooling. In a perfect world, id fire this thing at the end of next weekend. Ideally id like to finish it by the end of the easter weekend.
Looking into colleges in the south-east, so potentially this year ill be moving down there to do Mechanical, automotive or mechatronic engineering.
Oh, and im planning to do something different with my power steering feed. I know that the powersteering can feed near 1000psi when the steering locks, i know the Braided lines will blow apart around 300psi. So im looking into some teflon setups, or ill have a crimped hydraulic hose made up to make it clean and away from pulleys.
Im using the russel stuff, its rated to 2500psi, and requires specific fittings. I want a reliable system, think this is going to be just the trick.

Power Steering Hose
For high-pressure power steering lines
Available in -6AN line
Power steering adapters sold separately to connect to most pumps and feed/pressure/return lines
Some test fitting in the engine bay, heater box in.
4th gen rad hose seems to fit okay
Gettin metal tommorow to fab up my crossmember, then ill be finalizing my wiring.
Fabricated dash brackets today, and got the interior harness layed in, thats my project after the crossmember. Then ill get the interior all in with the new gauges, and then finish headers/final touches.
I tried parting it. Ever tried parting a $10,000 car during these times?
Aint happenin
Gave up and decided to just keep it and knock a couple seconds off
Chevy - If your refering to the LSx, do it. The 5.3L's now are $430cad (Thats like $350us) at the junkyard near me. The 6.0L i bought was $600!!! 80k on it, mint shape, complete pull out.

What schools you looking at? Mississippi State should be at the top of your list. LOL. I'll be graduating with a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering in 4 weeks.
Im looking into a bunch of different ones. Theres one in Windsor, ON (i know, thats north hah) that has a program i like. Anyways, dunno what im doing yet.
In the mean time, i got some progress made on my car (pictures will be up tommorow night)
-Fabricated Double Hump crossmember
-Shifter installed, and boot screwed down
-Power steering cooler/return fitted
-Rad hoses fitted
-Steam line run
-Heater box bolted in
-Stereo wiring put in
-Interior harness installed
-Power window retrofit halfway finished
-4th gen pedal wiring finished
-Drivers side front suspension bolted up
My plans for during the week are to finish all my wiring, get the carpet all in place, get suspension/brakes all bolted up, new fuel injectors installed, and figure out gauges.
I got a set of new injectors for the car. For those of you who dont know, the Grand Prix GTP (97-?), bonneville SSEi etc. Basically GM FWD V6's with the L67 supercharged motor.
They came with 36.5 @ 3bar fuel injectors, which means 41lb @ 4bar LS1 pressure.
Ontop of that, a JY with the motor generally will charge peanuts for them. I got 6 off my buddy's motor, then a customer provided the last 2 i needed. Cheap solution to my car's fueling needs

Here's an overhead shot, got the wiring finished, fuse box mounted to the side, gotta clean it up, but i like the way it looks. Intake tube was smoothed and painted (bedliner, figured it might seal a bit of heat out), got my battery cables set, finished headers, fabricated a Y, setup my clutch (seems to feel okay, guess ill know better when i move it whether it worked or not, throttle cable is installed (still needs adjusting), brake lines arent set in yet cause i need to bench bleed the master, then ill do the rest of the system, coolant overflow is in, so cooling system is done & filled
Here's a shot of the double hump crossmember i made, gotta clean up the front edge on it, just incase it gets low enough to catch it, dont want to end up peeling the crossmember back:
Heres my interior progress, almost finished swapping the thirdgen dash back in, what a nightmare its been. Had an issue with VATS, couldnt get my key to turn the starter, so i devised a quick solution which i really like. Put in a push button starter. button triggers a relay which provides power to the solenoid to turn it.
Looking good Sheldon. Glad you stuck it out with an f-body.
Kinda curious about your drive by wire delete whats the reason there? Looked like you had a sweet set up last time around with the DBW and I heard that they are easier to tune so what made you go to a cable TB? That one looks stock so...?
im lost .. i thought u had 4th gen dash swap .. why did you go back ? did you sell the 4th gen set up?
I did do the 4th gen dash swap. Decided to put it back cause no matter what i did it looked like a hack job.
Shr00m is the only guy ive seen truely make the 4th gen dash look like it was meant to be there. So now im battling with the thirdgen dash in an attempt to get back to sq. 1. (which i shoulda just stuck to in the first place, if i hadnt of realized the 4th gen dash swap was going to be such a disaster haha)

Cam,
I changed my harness out to an earlier harness in favour of routing and allowing me to re-do my fuse box, unfortunately it was a cable system.
Next shot would be a GTO harness as it fits the LS1 & is DBW.
Ahh I see so you do prefer the dbw system over the cable. Good to know.
As a side note did you notice a lag at all with your dbw? My truck has a weird lag effect that I swear is connected to the dbw. Its just doesn't "feel" like my foot is connected to the engine the same way. Only thing I can figure is dbw delay or improper input or?

The DBW i feel is smoother, and cleans up the look of the engine bay. Hardest part is getting hte pedal setup how you want it, but after that, its real nice.
Movement of the pedal is buttery smooth, and if you rev it up a bit, the computer wont let the throttle just slam shut, sorta takes care of itself.
As for lag, i felt 0. I tuned out all of the tq. management, and basically made it so the TAC could only control the motor for safety features like slowly closing the blade from high rpm, and failsafe protection.
Their setup to moderate themselves based on engine performance to save the transmission, but i got rid of that.
Their likely was the milliseconds of lag where the computer reads the pedal, then mimics the position into the TB, but honestly, i felt none. Truely like the system, next time i do wiring, it will be a DBW wire system without a doubt.
reason i asked because i need 4th gen a pillars to complete my 4th gen dash swap.. i wanted to see his.. thats all i am missing.
Been there done that...IMO you lose too much lateral vision with the 4th gen a pillars. Go with 3rd gen pillars and then find a way to create a template for the space between the 4th gen dash and the 3rd gen pillars.
I used 1.5mm lexan, a jigsaw and a propane torch to shape it.
I just started cutting and bending it until I had a piece that fit very good. I then used some fiberglass resin and cloth to form a piece from the template that I could sand and finish. Once that was done I simply matched up the color and grain of the dash with some 4 way vinyl and covered the pieces.
It is not perfect, but I am picky and its an easy 9 outta 10 and from the inside of the car I had more vision to either side.

Interesting to hear.
I was going to do mine like shr00m had, but i threw in the towel.
I wanted the triple pod, and didnt see how i was going to fit it in with the 4th gen lower pillar, and make it all look nice.
The dash now looks not too bad, not to say im really digging the look of it, i much preffered the 4th gen feel, its just i hated how it never looked right, and the door panels simply do not fit, and never look like they were meant to be there.
Down the road i may do the dash swap all over again, never know. If i could find myself a mint, rust free 91-92 Z28 roller, id move alot of my parts into 1 of them, simply because of the interior.
I went overboard when i bought the car, wanted to do everything to it, now its nothing but headaches trying to make it fit perfectly. Not to say it fits like crap, its just been a long journy of stress to undo everything i did to it.
Yep I hear you on the dash. My GTA was converted with the entire 4th gen harness so I have everything like the functioning dual air bags, keyless entry, redundant steering wheel controls, ect.
I like the 4th gen dash I just hate all the time it took to fab stuff like the 4th gen HVAC cable for hot/cold and these pieces in the corners of the dash, ect. Because I have 4th gen wiring fed through a 3rd gen column and the 4th gen wiper motor is not compatable I now only have low/high for my wipers altho the car hasn't seen rain but once since I bought it 2 years ago.
And I have my stock 3rd gen door panels on the car as we all know how the 4th gen panels don't fit very good at all.

Lots of exterior pictures in my thread abotu the stance.
Here's more:
Gotta say im real proud of how the engine bay came out. Fuel lines, powersteering, even the way my brake lines are im real happy with. I love the look of the braided lines.
Hoping the interior makes me just as happy. Its been a battle the whole way. I really wish i never bothered with the 4th gen dash swap in the first place, as its made for a disaster trying to get the thirdgen dash to fit back in. Finally getting everything to line up, but ive gotta admit, it isnt perfect. Anyways, im waiting for a covans classic gauge panel to mount my gauges into so i can know whats going down in the car, then i gotta rip the tank out to do a fuel level sender so i can know what the fuel situation in the car is.
Oh, and to further my good luck im having with the car, the pump is whining when it primes for start up. Good thing ive got the gauge to watch it, but i wouldnt be surprised to have to be buying a new pump soon.
After all the fighting with the clutch, i finally got it. Im going to bleed it some more still, it gets itself in gear, but it picks up right off the floor, though ive heard that is normal, and it will change with some driving.
Anyways. Ive gotta start assembling the interior a bit, and im going to put the front end back on it tonight after it moves.
(Sorry - I'm in a smart-aleck mood this morning...)
hahaha!!
You should see the paint on it. Old man who had it before me tried to impress his wife by painting the car. He did it with a brush
Gotta be the ugliest thing that ever hit the earth haha. Im convinced, for every scratch he saw, he just smacked the car with the brush, cause theirs random brush strokes everwhere. Its terrible, just terrible hahaha
Not to mention, the TDI dyno'd a whopping 67whp! (I got bored at work one morning hahaha)
Car is looking great man! Good work on the engine bay. Hopefully you have better luck KEEPING it clean than I do. haha.
Dont sweat the clutch just yet. It'll drive funny for a bit, then start to work great. Are you going to break it in before stretching it out on the dyno?
That reminds me...I have to come up with money and get my car tuned soon....

J.
Its actually a used clutch, so it shouldnt need much breaking in, though i plan on doing a bit of break in anyways.
The guy tuning the car, Arun, is probably the best tuner in canada. He really knows his tuning. He is going to do a drivability tune on the car first, so i can drive it around, and get some miles on the setup, then he will do the dyno tune for me.
Hopefully ill have numbers soon, im sick of the car being in the shop haha.
On a further note, we moved it from our old shop to our new one. Dragged it across town, broke the tow rope 3 times, and it was all round a disaster. Thank god thats over. It showed me the clutch isnt quite done (yay ) so i gotta get back to bleeding more of the clutch.
Once the clutch is done for the 5th time, ill bolt the front end on the car, and then arun will do my tune for me.
Brakes need to be bled again as their kinda soft. Im going to try bleeding all 4 wheels at once, as i think somewhere ni the system, theres an air bubble thats just pushing from side to side.
Anyways, thats it for now, gonna get back to working on it sunday!
Got the front end on, took'er for a spin and god it was fun! Didnt get to drive far as i havent got insurance on it yet, but just ripped around the parking lot @ the store was lots of fun.
I did a bit of a base tune on it, its enough to make it so i can drive it and the a/f is pretty good. Its got bucking @ low low rpm right now. If you let the clutch out at idle and start picking up from there it will buck a bit until you get into it to get about 2k rpm. This should be fixed up a little by the tune.
My next project now is to finish my interior, get all my gauges in. That's my project today, to get the interior together for the most part. Im waiting on a covans classis gauge panel to show up so i can do my main cluster & a-pillar at once.
From there, its basic stuff, it needs an alignment badly, still need to get my brakes to firm up, and then im going to try to ajust my exhaust a bit cause it sits cocked a bit, and i think the tips hang a little low. So ill funk around with that to see if i can get it to my likings.
Otherwise, im real happy with how things have turned out so far, power steering feels excellent, and isnt leaking a drop.
looking good. Wish I could get my vette fuel rail covers to fit on my carb intake, still haven't figured that step out yet.

ya better fuel distribution to boot. Actually I'm pretty sure I'm selling off this motor shortly and swapping to a 6.0L instead of this ls1 stuff. Got some nice L92 heads sitting in the garage that are looking for a home.
