I am looking at changing the motor out of my 1992 firebird Formula. I presently have a 5.7 TPI with 770R4 trans I have a line on a 2004 GTO LS! with 4L60E auto trans will it fit in the same as the 2001 LS1 and trans or are they different.
We ask that you post new topics in a new thread, rather than tacking it on to another thread on a different topic. I've moved your post into its own thread for that reason.
There is an LS1 swap sticky in the top section of this forum. Take a look through that first. I believe most of your questions will be answered.
My car was originally TBI can I use those fuel lines to run to the regulator and all that or do I need TPI lines. Seems that everyone that has done the swap was either a tpi car or a mpfi v6. What's the difference in tpi and tbi fuel lines?
Fuel lines are the same through all years/engine combos
The differences came in location (carb pass side, efi drivers) and number (evap presence or missing)
Factory hardlines will hold the high pressure required from the LSx fuel system. Up to you to decide on Vette filter/regulator combo or a return style AFPR mounted in the engine bay

12 circuit fuse box for the lsx stuff so i dont have to run **** through the firewall.
The IGN switch and gauges still need to run inside the cabin. Adding a fuse box wont change their duties

GTO oil pan will not fit, you need to swap Fbody, or other low profile pan
GTO trans will not have torque arm mounts cast into the tailshaft, either swap the 700R4 tailshaft over or use a crossmember affixed TA mount

92Tracker
Nice setup. There is a ton of info. on swapping in a LS1. You will probably spend hours reading through all the threads.
I have been reading through all the info the more I read I find this will be not to bad a swap. I since have moved away from the 04 and now am looking for a 02 from a F-body as this would be some what easyer to change out.
Has anyone tried to mold the heater box to accomidate the stock coils?
So far I have installed the LS1 into the 92, the frame has been notched and the A/C comp in place, the issue I have now is the steering arm will hit the A/C when I turn the steering to the right, has anyone come accross this and what was the solution.

Pictures? I have read many threads for when my time comes to do the swap and I have never heard of this problem.

Haven't heard this before either. Is this an LS1 accessory setup on the car? All components in stock LS1 locations?
You could just run NASCAR tracks if that's easier. Go fast, turn left. Sorry, I'm sure that's not what you wanted to hear but I couldn't help myself.
in that picture thats the idler arm right? If it is it has a few inches you can move it up and down. losen the two bolts that hold it to the car and it will slide down some. It should give you clearence you need. Now in a perfect world with the steering centered the center link should be level so don't go lower than you need to to clear the engine. Of course this means an alignment also.
You could mount the engine up a little in the cradle also.

I have removed the A/C for the moment. The ibler arm is correct the two bolts have been loosened and put to the bottom I plan on grinding off the threads above the nut and shave a little off the A/C bolt sleeve I beleive this will get me the required clearance by a 1/8 inch at the most.
