305 Carb to LT1 conversion

I have an 86 Camaro sport with a 305 carb-ed engine. i am acquiring a early 90s caprice with an lt1 in it. IT will be the complete engine. I am looking to see 1: how hard this swap will be (because im fairly new in engine swapping/building) and if i decide to get it done at a junkyard how much it might run me...any info is much appreciated

How early 90's are you talking about? The LT1 did not come out in them till 94 and then some them was 4.3l (L99) looks the same as the LT1. Just run the casting numbers and check out the LT1 sticky at the top. The sawp in not that hard if you dont mind the wiring.

Like any engine swap, it's just the matter of dropping it in, supplying it with enough fuel with the right pump, and having an ECM controlling things. Just don't think that the junkyard is going to drop it in and you'll be driving away, as it's a little more complicated than that, and I doubt they know how to hook up ECM wiring properly to a car that didn't come equipped with fuel injection in the first place. I mean sure, if you don't have the means, they can install the engine for you by dropping (and believe me, they will literally "drop") it in, and bolting it up to the transmission, but I don't think that they will understand the detent cable issue, among other things to boot, as you'll need a '93 throttle body cable bracket. Just have them install the engine, pay them to deliver it, and finish it yourself....

I live about 10-15 minutes from Sewell. Let me know if you need a hand. I'm currently doing an LT1 swap into my '89.

i have a 79 camaro with a carburated 350. and i'm looking to switch it out with an LT1 350. if i can aquire one do you think you could come over and help me out? i live in Oaklyn nj (08107) its about a 40 minute drive from where i live. because, i've never swaped an engine out before. and i want to drop in an LT1 for better gas mileage (over a carburated) better horsepower. and more options for mods to increase HP and TQ
